The percentage of voters who give Congress good or excellent ratings has fallen to single digits for the first time in Rasmussen Reports tracking history. This month, just 9% say Congress is doing a good or excellent job. Most voters (52%) say Congress is doing a poor job, which ties the record high in that dubious category.

The percentage of Democrats who give Congress positive ratings fell from 17% last month to 13% this month. The number of Democrats who give Congress a poor rating remained unchanged. Among Republicans, 8% give Congress good or excellent ratings, up just a point from last month. Sixty-five percent (65%) of GOP voters say Congress is doing a poor job, down a single point from last month.

Voters not affiliated with either party are the most critical of Congressional performance. Just 3% of those voters give Congress positive ratings, down from 6% last month. Sixty-three percent (63%) believe Congress is doing a poor job, up from 57% last month.

Most voters (72%) think most members of Congress are more interested in furthering their own political careers. Just 14% believe members are genuinely interested in helping people.

You can count me as part of that 72%.

Although this should not be surprising at all. Most of the people who got in this past election (dems) got there by running against GW not issues related to their districts. They sang an almighty song about how they were going to stop this and stop that...Then GW said beotch please...hit your knees...and they replied "I've never done this before".

What's changed since the past election? The people realized too late that they voted with their emotions.

As opposed to every other election... since ancient Greece? People always vote with their emotions before their intelligence.

"We have a war going on... OMG GAY MARRIAGE AND TERRI SCHIAVO AND THE TEN COMMANDMENTS ETC!"

That said, yeah, the majority are only there as a career, not as a public servant. (It's the same in Australia)

I think people are just disappointed that voting for these people didn't actually get Bush removed from office.
Prime-Collector
I don't think most congresspeople even know they're supposed to be helping people.

The continued epic failure of the Legislative branch surpassed the issues of controlling parties long ago. If 'n when the democratic experiment of the US government fails amazingly, it's going to happen because of this branch. I still believe it's because it can't handle the size. That shot don't SCALE.
