My wife and I saw it tonight, totally great. It wasn't just a good cartoon, it was a pretty good science-fiction movie (and a pretty strong rap against big business, I guess).
>_> I almost cried at the end
All in all, I am a sucker for robot movies, especially cute ones.

I know this is all a matter of taste and opinion, but I thought Cars sucked.
Anyway, WALL-E was a very good movie. The perfect family flick. Younger kids get a well made kiddie movie, and the older crowd gets an entertaining sci-fi tale with a message,

I liked it alot and all I kept thinking durning the movie is "Why can't Pixar and Hasbro get together and totally remake the original G1 Transformers movie?" Wall-E easily sets the standards for this. Pixar has got their CGI down.
Before anyone jumps on the licensing (sp?) issues for vehicles all you have to do is take a look at EA's Burnout series.
Don't bother sticking around after the credits, there's nothing.
For those that did go (with kids) did you pick up your Wall-E watch? I managed to get two, there nothing overly special just a little promo.

Saw it yesterday, and loved it. A couple of good messages, but also a rollicking fun and exciting movie. Very touching as well, it's stunning how they can fill those characters with so much emotion. I'm getting the DVD when it's out, no question.
My only problem with it was the fact that some of the funny clips shown in the trailers weren't any longer in the movie, like the bra scene and the ball/paddle one. A tiny tiny nit to pick in an otherwise brilliant movie.
From a technical standpoint, those Pixar guys are at the top of their game. That CGI was just amazing. A re-make of the '86 TF movie, w/ the original dialog, would be an absolute winner.

For more tech nerd -ness, Ben Burtt designed the voice of WALL-E in the film. He's basically the pioneer of modern sound design, creating pretty much all of the Star Wars films' sound effects (the blaster, lightsaber, R2-D2's "voice"). I mean, it isn't too surprising as Pixar always mixes with Skywalker Sound, but it's nice to know they took this movie seriously enough to have Burtt to be so involved with the sound design for all the robots in the film.

Saw it last night!
This is the Best film of the year so far.
Wow!
So beautifully done.
Geek films are really coming into their own this summer - Between Batman, WallE, Hellboy, Ironman, Speed Racer and all the others - we have never had so much available and whats more - such HIGH QUALITY. (we even have and Indy and a Star Wars this summer - which isnt a comment on quality so much - but historically resonant nonetheless)
I knew quite a bit about Wall*E before going in and I was still surprised. The Characters were so real, and the story so natural and touching... It's like this is the type of film that Disney Films think they are ... but this is one of the few real ones.
I am shocked that this thread isn't longer.

The best movies of the summer haven't been Lucas properties in twenty or thirty years. It's Lucas falling out of the most looked-forward-to category that is compelling...although I think Indy was among the most looked-forward-to movies of this summer, I don't think it's potential sequels will be as high up that scale.

Here's a neat article that gives some insight on their design process for realism in the animation and "camera" angles. Pretty deep tech and artsy stuff for a G-rated film.

It's one of the larger figures. As far as I know outside of the regular figures they have two larger WALL-E figures, a MP3 one and a transforming cube one. Some pics, along with EVE.....
To transform him you just snap the head, arms, and treds into the box/body and they lock in place.
To transform him back you press a series of tabs on his back....
The top tab pops his head back up, the middle tab pops his arms out, and the two lower tabs, when pressed together, pop his treds out.
We all should be sucking Steve Jobs nuts right now.
That is all.

I just saw the movie today, loved it. I must say, Pixar really did pull out all the stops with their 3D technology this time around. Just goes to show how far the technology has come from Toy Story. Heh, I bet if you watched the two movies side by side, you wouldn't even be able to tell they were made by the same company. Kudos to Pixar for going to "infinity and beyond" once again.
Also, when I saw Wall-E boxform, I was all "aw man, that is awesome."

what Hunter said
just amazingly great in so many ways
In case there was ever any doubt that Pixar is the official heir to Walt Disney's throne...
...actually, scratch that, they're going beyond that. Disney was full of even back when they were doing groundbreaking animation. Pixar is brilliantly artistically wonderful but uses all their magic tricks in service of the story and the characters.
I mean for God's sake look at that cartoon at the beginning. It could have come straight out of the golden era of US animation.
and I don't mind saying that I cried at least twice during the movie, which I've seen 2x now

Yeah I took my son to see that yesterday, we all loved it! And I agree that toon at the beginning was abslutely golden. I wish they'd have a division that would just make shorts like that all the time, I'd buy every DVD they would make.
and Wall-E was perfection everything about it was just stunning and though the graphics as always were spectacular they focused on telling a good story. This is good, because the non pixar Disney stuff has been severly lacking that kind of charm for some time now. (though Enchanted was really done pretty well)

I read a critique that the film was actually a little soft on that end... that the "rebirth" was a little too forced. You never quite get the the feeling that he's really gone - the article uses ET as a point of comparison - where everyone thought that ET died - you never really think that WALL*E is gone...
I'm not sure how valid this critique is but its interesting. Had this been made for an adult audience - would there have been any benefit to the story if Wall*E had not "come back"? (in some sense ET never comes back)
What would the ramifications of that be? One a side note, I am a bit disappointed that although Wall*E is doing "well" but not GREAT at the Box Office. How can people NOT be loving this film??
The toys are flying off the shelves (Although that maybe because TRU is the ONLY store carrying them - lord knows why!?!! Making a Toy a TRU exclusive practically begs for poor sales)

Jul 7 2008, 10:35 AM
Actually, I was totally up for the possibility that he might have been gone for good, and it wouldn't have bothered me. Sacrificing for love and for duty to humans, it would have made sense to me. Plus losing their only "living" tie to 700 years ago.
And I'm not sure what Hunter is saying, but that rebirth scene was singlehandedly the most powerful moment in the film to me. Where I sniffled.
