Autobot Camshaft
I bought this guy at walmart a few days ago. Upon removing him from his packaging, the floppiness of the cannon cover on the back became readily apparent. This didn't bother me, however, as it only really flopped about if the car was placed upside down--a rather odd and unrealistic position for a car.
Transforming this guy is a lot of fun. It's very simple, but clever. I actually like that his hands aren't in permanent fist position...it seems more realistic to me...less action-figure-like. There are, however, some flaws:
1. The floppy car piece that covers the cannon in vehicle mode.
It's a PAIN IN THE ASS to get it to stay in any particular position so it doesn't dangle like some rediculous loin cloth. However, once you get it to stay, it's not so bad.
2. The lack of head articulation.
His head is on some type of joint, I know it...it's just stuck down so far into the body that it can't turn! Again, a minor annoyance...or at least, for me.
The robot mode has a very classic feel to it, hearkening (sp) back to the days when most of the autobots had the hoods of cars for chests. I miss those days, and Camshaft is a pleasant reminder of them. If you already hate the camera-head Movie Transformer designs, you'll probably hate this guy, too. However, if you are a fan of said designs, and you appreciate the classic car-chest autobots, then I highly reccoment him. A worthy investment.
Overcast
Okay, I imagine that most of you probably hate the Overcast/Dreadwing mold, but...I must confess, he's one of my favorites.
I'll start with his vehicle mode:
Not exactly kibble-rific, but the oddly conspicuous bomb/fuel tank thing underneath it converts into the legs...seems like a compromise to me, especially considering how small the legs are because of it. Other than that, the jet mode is quite nice. The black & neon colorscheme is very pleasing..much more pleasing than the grey camo of his counterpart, Dreadwing.
The transfomation is just as odd as the robot mode...with the nose of the plane becoming the airplane head, and the fuel tank becoming the legs...still, it's a fun little transformation, with just enough difficulty to keep in interesting and not frustrating.
Once he is converted to robot mode...well, I'm not quite sure what to say. He's quite disproportionate, with very short legs, a very large upper body, and very long gorilla arms...with no hands. However...his weird bubble eye and odd, ungainly appearance are...well, I might as well say it. This is one cute little bugger. In an odd, catloaf sort of way...
so what do you guys think of em? I'm probably the only one in the universe that likes them...
