Add New York to the list of states that recognize transgendered lifestyles. In a policy instituted on March 17th but recently recognized, transgendered juveniles in detainment at New York State centers can wear whichever uniform they want, be called by the name of their preference and request special housing. Advocacy groups say that NY State is a leader in respect for a person's sexual preference. Hawaii and California have similar laws in place.
