I mean, look at it. Near as I can tell, the plane's fuselage folds back.....and then Silverbolt stands up.
Now, like I said, I was never planning to get this toy. But this sort of transformation on a toy that size just irks me on general principles, and I'm finding it hard to believe that this is the final product we're seeing. Your thoughts on the subject?

Yeah, that's pretty much how the old toy and even the Cartoon version worked. I'm not even sure how far you could stray from that model and still have it be a "Classic" Silverbolt.
So I say no harm no foul. In classics, if you didn't like the old model, there's no reason to expect to like the re-hash.

Like Prime-Collector said its true to the original and you cant fault that. I like it. This is what an updated G1 toy should be, similar bot and alt mode with basically joints added to allow for articulation. that is just my opinion.

Jun 19 2008, 08:23 PM
Yeah, but without the need to combine, why make him transform like the G1 Silverbolt? They could have just as easily engineered a more interesting transformation process and had him still look look he did in G1 while in robot mode. This just looks lazy.

When I saw the topic for this thread I thought it was about this toy:

...I still don't see why Hasbro had to call this line "Universe" and why they didn't decide to continue calling it Classics or even "Classics 2.0"... *sigh* (-_-)

Well, they sort of did. Universe is just the "Banner" title. The packaging, Acid Storm's for example, has mention of "Classics" on it.
Anyways, at least with the Universe banner, we could expect repaints from other series with little-to-no fuss rather than having it be Classics, and start getting repaints from say, Animated, and causing a good deal of people fussing over it.

Seconded. Part of the reason I like the line so much is not only do they take what's broken and fix it, they reimagine them. Voyager Prime is fantastic not because he's a slavish representation of G1 Prime, but he's a new and clever version of him. Onslaught has very little directly in common with his G1 form, but enough visual cues and key elements that you can usually tell who he is.

Universe Silverbolt is all anyone can ask for, a G1 toy with better articulation. I like it and look forward to getting Silverbolt.

The Only way I'd buy a Transformer as simple as Universe silverbolt when he's that size, is if he DID combine. But Hasbro has already said that these won't be combiners so I think silverbolt is the one classics 2.0 that I will not be getting.

I wouldn't be surprised if Silverbolt is like that because of the electronic lights and sounds it's supposed to have.

Anyone who's complaining about Classics 2.0 Silverbolt likely hasn't seen or heard of Cybertron Supreme class Starscream. The transformation of this figure is almost exactly the same as the Legends version. And exactly the same as the Voyager version. So Silverbolt is just fine IMO. Let's face it: there would be people complaining about how he's inaccurate to G1 if they did it differently, just as there are people complaining because he is fairly accurate to G1. You can't please everyone. No offense to anyone who dislikes this figure, regardless of his/her/its reasons.

I didn't like that one either.
Personally, I'm glad people that want g1 + modern joints are getting this figure, and I know that's what I liked when I was a kid. (The rare figure with knees or *gasp* elbow joints was

, even if it was a mediocre toy.)
However, now I mostly like tfs for how they look on display, being able to pose them, and the tactile joy of transforming them. I like my tf's more complicated than "I lay down and put my arms to the side."
It
is a little odd that every other classics figure is a complete update of the g1 transformation, not just a "lets add elbows!" kind of thing.

Classics 2.0 Onslaught would look great with my Movie Leader class Brawl figure!

Either Animated Swindle or Alternators Swindle, too! Need an updated version of Blast Off and Vortex that aren't exclusives (so no TCC Astrotrain). I'm surprised that reaction to Onslaught hasn't been something like "Trukk, not Van!11!!1!" (adaptation of the "Trukk, not Munky!11!!1!" argument)

I think that pretty much hits it on the nose.
And though I personally don't care either way about electronics in tfs, I did get to see Silverbolt during the Hasbro panel at Transformerscon, and he does actually have kick ass sound effects, mainly the "choo chock cho chee" traditional changing sound, just like in G1.
Question is, WILL IT BE ENOUGH TO SWAY ME INTO BUYING IT....

The colors kill it for me. The Japanese release looks a lot better overall.
Also what the frell is with rainbow on his rear end? Looks really bad and out of place when one solid gray/silver would have been fine.
Also don't like the fact SB's an Ultra when the transformations on both him, Powerglide, and Bruticus could have easily been scaled down to voyagers. Having Jetfire dwarfed by Powerglide is just B A D.
Detective Barricade

For Powerglide, it puts his Alt mode (A-10 Thunderbolt)on the same size as the other A-10 Transformer of recent years, Wingsaber/Wing Blade.

But the only major difference is that TakTomy SB is all bright white and stuffs, and Hasbro's is a light grey. From what I saw, there were no major paint app differences on the bot itself, including the big, ghey rainbow engine on the back.
So is the grey jet mode the problem you have?

I like Silverbolt, might get him. Not entirely sure.
But what I really want is for them to release the rest of the Dinobotos in Classics Grimlock style. If sales of the Animated Dinobots work out, who's to say they may not do the complete G1 team for Classics. We already have Grimlock, now give us Slag, Sludge, Snarl and Swoop.

Not really. The bot mode colors I thought looked a lot better. Grey/silver doesn't make all that much of a difference really. I just wish the whole alt mode was one color or the other. I also don't understand the rainbow bit. Is that something caried over from the G1 incarnation?

Grimlock rocks. IMO he's better than Hot Rod and Astrotrain, both figures I really enjoy but less than the rest of the Classics.
I wouldn't mind seeing some new characters in the Classics line. Maybe some other dinosaurs to add to the team...

Yes the transformation is very simple, especialy when compaired to the other Ultras. They could have done alot more here, and his gun needs to transform into a scout plain. However, there is something very stately about him.
He is a simple transformer, and in no way deserves a Skill Level of 3. He definetly should pack more bang for the buck, but he realy isn't a bad figure at all.

If Silverbolt's robot body were integrated into the plane mode I think it wouldn't be all that much better than it is now. Hell, there might even be complaints about airplane kibble attached to the robot mode.
