You have to wonder about a religion that doesn't allow even positive artwork about a freakin' writer.

As opposed to a religion whose followers see the image of their savior and his mother on grilled cheese samwiches, trees, animals, and stains in a public washroom? Then again, the muslims would probably throw a fit if the image of their founder appeared on objects as unclean as those and then proceed to destroy the objects for commiting blasphemy.

The really annoying thing is, that the entire prohibition on depictions of Mohammed was put in place so that people wouldn't worship him instead of Allah.
So getting angry because somebody made a blasphemous image of the prophet is really an epic level of stupidity.

I wonder how much money an organized, peaceful organization of Muslims would have if they hadn't spent it all on weapons all of these years. Heck, the PLO alone probably could have bought Israel, especially if they got financial support from Iraq, Iran and Saudi Arabia.

The problem is that the Palestinians are like the lowest people group on the Muslim totem pole, economically speaking and otherwise. They're kind of like the West Virginia of the region.

Although, I kinda have to think if most of the people in the Muslim and Arab world had the same standards of living as those living in the average industrialized Christian world, there'd be a lot fewer such incidents. Would there still be some? Of course. But there seem to be a lot less of these reactionary Muslim responses coming outta places like Dubai.

Glue just hit it on the head. Economic prosperity is the enemy of rage-fueled violent attacks. So instead of blaming Islam, maybe we could blame poverty and desperation and such.

Not that it matters, but oil and natural gas revenue actually only
accounts for a small percentage (less than 10%) of Dubai's economy.

My understanding is that most Middle Eastern oil supplies are managed by the govt's, which go on to redistribute the wealth in order to benefit their citizens. That would NEVER happen in the US, obviously, and there's no reason to believe prices would go down even if there was a surplus.

Eh. Microeconomically speaking, prices would go down if supply increases and all else remains the same. That's just high school econ. Although, you're right because the real world market isn't a textbook s&d curve and there are oligopolies and a number of macroeconomic factors affecting all.
On the other hand, if we're talking about citizens having less poverty and desperation, prices aren't as important as financial stability and affordability of basic necessities. And those who enjoy a decent standard of living have one less reason to want to disrupt that.
