It all started with peaceful march by AKK-BB (Solidarity for Religious Freedom and National Unity) on national landmark, Monas Tower, to urge the government to not banning the Islamic sect of "Admadiyya", but soon turned into a full-scale riot when FPI (Islamic Defenders Front), the most radical Sunni Islamic group on Indonesia, stormed into the march and start harassing the AKK-BB members. Hundreds were hurt, from men, women to children. And police did nothing to stop such riot just because Ahmadiyya is deemed to be illegal sect and thus eligible to be bashed like they're not humans. icon_sad.gif

The shocking thing was... the radical majority Sunni would even go as far as eradicating the rights of followers from other sub-sects of Islam to keep their faith and force them to convert to majority's Sunni Islam, or else, will be facing justice.

so the Islamic Defenders Front weren't stopped by the Defenders of Islam Front or the Peoples Front of Islam. where was the Islamic Peoples Front?

anyway, I just don't get how they can keep fighting over the same thing for thousands of years.
why can't they just disagree and be ok? just seems like a waste.

We're the People's Front of Judea!

Unlike science, religion isn't subjective to peer-review. From their perspective, their religious predecessors were told the secret to life, the universe, and everything by an omnipotent god. To question this truth that was revealed to them is to question the omnipotence of their god and the validity of their way of life. Of course, fanatical violence is never justified but I do understand things from their perspective.

Probably because the quality of life for most christians improved to the point where they had other things to live for and were no longer so eager to give up their lives for their god.

The Front Pembela Islam (Islamic Defenders Front–FPI) is another Indonesian radical Islamic group. The FPI was formed in August 1998 and now claims branches in 22 provinces. Based in Jakarta, the FPI is led by Habib Muhammad Riziek Syihab, a religious teacher who was educated in Saudi Arabia. Like Habib, many of the top FPI leaders have Arab blood. The FPI’s stated goal is the full implementation of Islamic Sharia law, although it supports Indonesia’s present constitution and avoids calling for an Islamic state. The FPI has a paramilitary wing called Laskar Pembela Islam and is well know for organising raids on bars, massage parlours and gaming halls. The FPI justifies these raids on the grounds that the police are unable to uphold laws on gambling and prostitution. Sceptical observers suspect that the police turn a blind eye to, or are complicit in, these activities, knowing that the victims will be encouraged to maintain protection monies to the police. The FPI in late 2001 took the lead in threatening to sweep Americans out of Indonesia because of the US operations in Afghanistan, although the threat was not in fact carried out.

Damn those pseudo-terrorists.
