Full Version: movie TF question

I have seen a lot of people referring to certain Movie TFers as "PREMIUM SERIES"... is this just the LEADER CLASS TFers or is there a different series of the movie TFers that have come out??

Ie, is LEADER CLASS PRIME = PREMIUM PRIME ??
ultra convoy
its a retool toy.
new head and new weapon added for the prime

Yeah, there are also Premium versions of other movie toys: Jazz, Bumblebee, Blackout, and Barricade I know for sure. These four all just have extra paint, and Bumblebee has his head with the face guard. There might be other Premiums but I don't know for sure...

The Premium series are just redecos of existing figures from the movie line that have been given a more "accurate" paint job. For instance, Jazz is painted silver instead of molded in metallic gray plastic. So far, the confirmed Premium series figures are:

Deluxe
Jazz
Barricade
Bumblebee*

Voyager
Ironhide
Blackout

Leader
Optimus Prime*
Megatron*

Additionally, four store exclusives have been confirmed as part of the Premium line despite coming out before the Premium series was officially announced.
Deep Space Starscream (Target)
Robo-Vision Optimus Prime (Target)
Ratchet (Best Buy)
Megatron (Best Buy)

*something has been changed on this figure (new head, weapon, etc.) All other figures are unchanged except for their colors

great

this is why i have absolutely "NO" interest in becoming a 'completist' with the new series... there will be 50 different primes alone before they are done.

I really really hate when they do this.

So what do most people do that have gotten one of the earlier figures? Get ANOTHER... try to sell an old one for the upgraded/retooled one and HOPE they don't yet do it again?

Coming soon... Ultra Delux Premium Prime (they painted his toe nails a new color)

On the serious side... how do you tell the difference in the packaging??? I took a look on ebay just to find box differences, and almost every one that I look at that says "premium".. just looks like the regular "leader class" prime and I don't see where it says "premium" on it. Anyone have 2 links to each one to see a sample? Have they corrected some of the 'size' differences (like making a leader size BoneCrusher) yet??

On Premium Series figures there is a silver banner with black lettering that says "Premium Series." The name of the figure is also on a silver banner with black letters. If you do not see "Premium Series" CLEARLY marked on the front of the box/card, it is not a Premium Series figure.

Regular Jazz

Premium Series Jazz

It looks Gray in the photos, but it is silver IRL. Voyager figures follow the same pattern.

there is a chromed stripe on the front of the box just below the window that says premium... otherwise it's just the regular release

There's no way I could be a completist. I very rarely buy a repaint of a toy I already have.
I already had Classics Prime and Starscream but bought the UM/Skywarp 2-pack so I have an UM to go with the new custom trailer.
I bought repainted versions of movie Ironhide and Bumblebee so my son would have a couple to play with.

I just stick with my originals. Paint jobs don't bother me too much.

I summed up some of the differences/impressions of each here:

I didn't know the Best Buy exclusive Ratchet was designed and confirmed as part of the Premium series. Now I want one. As for Screamer, I can't find one in any Target I seem to go to.

I would like to get a hold of one of those Deep Space Starscreams if anyone does happen to run across a small cache of them somewhere.

I don't think it was designed for the Premium series, I think it was more a case of being "retconned" into the line.

Hasbro Employee 1: "Hey, Bill. We're coming out with this line of movie akurate figures called the Premium series. Should we count those store exclusives we already did?"

Hasbro Employee 2: "Sure, why not?"

I concur, which is also how Robo-vision Prime got retconn'd into the line - plus, I guess Deep Space Starscream, since I don't recall seeing "Premium Series" anywhere on the pictures of his packaging.

Oh. Maybe. Now that you mention it, that makes more sense. Still, would like to see what Deep Space Screamer looks like in person to decide on a possible purchase.
