Is this a problem? Cigarettes and booze are extremely popular and heavily taxed.

optimuslaugh2.gif I see where this is going

Bestimus Mucho
Gasoline is also a poison....

HA!

The problem with this is that they will drive the porn industry away, making the economy worse instead of better. We've seen it happen already with more mainstream productions, tons of which shoot in Vancouver now.

By the way, this isn't a tax on the consumers of porn, like you pay when buy cigarettes, this is a tax on the producers - which will eventually be passed onto the consumers, yes, but that's why they'll leave California. So they make porn in Nevada and not pay the state and still charge the same price and stuff.
Blitz-Wing
Booze and cigs are vice taxes. Porn is a vice. To me, it works out great. Although the tax's financial destination is probably a vice in itself. I bet the dems are looking for a way to get a raise since Cali has a negative cash flow right now.

As you can tell, I could give two shotes about porn.

Let's just tax everything so our economy can go into the shotter. We're so reliant on consumer spending (2/3 of overall economy) that the more we tax, the more we take away from consumers to spend. Doesn't seem logical to me. California needs to start cutting their budget and lowering taxes to get their lost business back, if that's even possible at this point.

Tadaa!

(And yes, it works OH so well. As you can imagine, everyone volunteers the information of what purchases they made in order to help contribute to the state government's booze and hookers I mean burdening debts.) California actually has a department whose job it is to go around and ensure that taxpayers who make purchases from other low-tax jurisdictions pay the difference in sales tax to them. death.gif

A lot of states have a use tax that compliments their sales tax and nails internet purchases (about the only way they can do it). Typically businesses are paying the use tax more than citizens because of how they get audited (the company I work for has to report sales and use tax every month to the state, which includes county and city sale and use tax as well).

Yeah. Although I know someone whose employer just ignores the BoE and never keeps records of such. laughlol.gif It seems they're powerful enough to squeeze some dollars outta some companies but far from enough to keep all businesses on the up and up. In fact, it seems that while all legit businesses pay their taxes, there's a very broad range in the equitability of who is paying what taxes..

Exactly, well said. They will go to other states/countries and still make their money while giving the finger to California.

I don't believe in pornography, I only believe in the erotic Arts!
Nomolos

that and a good money shot.

On my state's (Louisiana) income tax return, it actually asks if you made any purchases on the intarwebs and if so, tells you to list how much (in dollars) you have spent. This is so you can pay an 8% sales tax on the total in addition to your income taxes.

Not that I EVER buy anything over the internet. leaving.gif

Yeah, they do the same here. Use Tax just offends me, and not even in the libertarian sense. Even from a liberal consideration where we need some taxes to pay for all the public stuff we take for granted here in California, the entire concept is offensive. It's the Complete Rip-off "Give Us More Money In Exchange For No Value" Tax.
