SMITHSQUARED
Hey, I am nearly thirty... my best friend is 27 and he tells me I should take up Karate, for excercise sake. he is a second degree black belt and really enjoys it. am I too old for it. I am in pretty good shape (I run 2 miles everyday and walk 1 mile to get to work, and I can bench press my weight)

What's the worst that could happen? Go for it!

I am kind of concerned if I am too old to catch on... you know there are a lot of sports that are better learned when young, in order to have your muscles act accordingly... swimming is a good example for different reasons

Go for it. If any kids in the class laugh at you, beat them up. That'll teach them.

Seriously, martial arts is taught every day to adults for things like self-defense and police training, so don't feel bad about it. If you want exercise just get into something like Yoga. You should train for weapons! The chicks will be impressed with how many gaiden you can behead with a chakra.

Yeah, really, nothing to worry about, you'll get used to it, go for it! It is really cool to learn self defense, and it must be taught.(unless of course you just all out start punching at the guy, and don't want to look organized) I know some stuff, and it is pretty cool. I know ALOT of holds, and alot of pressure points in the body that would make your attacker fall to his knees and cry. optimuslaugh2.gif

Hey man you’re never too old, I mean if an 80 year old woman can get her Associates degree then doesn’t that just show you it’s never too late to get into something you want to? thumbsup1.gif

I'm 16 and want to take up Kendo. My problem is though that I'm not sure if I'm fit enough. I'm 250 pounds, 6 foot, and it's all gut.

Hey smithsquared,

Go for it!!! I have been training for 8 years already and see a lot of people ranging from different ages and culture get into it. I even have guys in their 50's starting with us. And it sounds like you're pretty active from the beginning. Just go and try it out. My suggestion to you is find a good school with a good martial art system to train with. Also, every system has something to offer to everybody. Best of luck!!! wave.gif

Hey smithsquared, in general males hit their physical peak at about 33 or so. Your body is reaching the optimal level. I would definitely go for it. Its easier for people our age and a little older to get into shape because this is around the age the male body is at its peak. thumbsup1.gif
