Full Version: Don't you people sometimes get tired of G1 fanboys?

Okay, I gave up trying to convince people here that TFA is awesomeji1.gif , they didn't even watch the awesome Beast Wars back then just because Prime=monkey. And recently, one of my buddies said TFA season 1 is booooring, and Optimus Prime got too much flaw to held the title "Prime", Blitzwing is boring, Bumblebee talks to much, etc etc etc.

I mean, so what? "Prime" on TFA is military rank, and no bots are perfect, not "OMG AWESOME LEADER OF TEH AUTOBOTZ AND KEEPER OF MATRIX" kind of Prime.

Pffft.
( . Y . )
Eh, people like what they like. There no reason to stir up trouble as long as everyone's fairly cordial about their opinions.
Darth Caine
I just dislike it when they keep shoving G1 to my throat and keep comparing G1 to other TF continuities, even Bay's movie and our fave TFA.
Father Time
Because what other people think is soooo important.
Darth Caine
Because after 24 years of change and modernization, they still think G1 is OMG OHSUM, NOTHING COULD BEAT GEEWUN!!

People are always complaining about what's on the radio. "OMG! That show is OFFENSIVE! It should be removed from the airwaves." They keep listening to see how offensive it is, yet they also complain. TURN THE FRICKIN' CHANNEL!

Same applies here, I think. If someone is "shoving G1 down your throat" just ignore that person/thread/what-have-you. It ain't that big a deal, bro.

( . Y . )
I'm trying to figure out who "they" is, and where on the board they are doing this.

same here, grant it i don't pay all that much attn to the animated forum (not a fan and all that). the biggest problem with tfa is the same problem that people had with the movie in that the design and style of the bots are so drastically different from the traditional transformer design/style. i don't like tfa for a number of reasons, but the style is a biggun. i also can't stand the concept of the whole super-hero thing. although i really did give it a shot though. hell the pilot really got me interested, now had they all been like the pilot i'd probably watch the show every once in a while, but meh. can't help what i like and all that though i gotta say trying to shove one's opinions down another's throat is pretty farged up, regardless of what side they're on.

some people like G1, some like TFA. I like both. I have yet to see anyone make a post like your describing. I have however seen one thread with a guy making fun of G1'ers because they don't agree with him. wave.gif

oh, there have been posts, but it's not a very common occurrence. mostly, i think, due to the staff nipping the problem in the bud when it started.
Nomolos
just making the point that its funny to open a thread with
"I gave up trying to convince..."
then the next post is
"I'm just tired of them shoving it to my throat"

what if your both wasting time trying to justify opinion differences? they probably feel like your shoving down their throats by making a thread like this. ya think?

If G1 Fanboys really annoy you that much, give up trying to convince them and just say something to make the fly into an uncontrollable rage.

eg. "I don't get all of the love for G1 Optimus Prime. Everyone knows that his character was portrayed as being openly homosexual." bsx.png

Then sit back and enjoy the fun. skeletor.png

Indonesian message board, I burned DVDs of TFA episodes for 'em, and then when I asked for their opinions, it was all like, "G1 >>>> TFA, BW", "TFA crap", etc.

Now I gave up trying to reason with 'em. G1 was all good and OMGAWSUM for them? Then so be it.

Yeah, I gave up trying. Being a G1 fan is cool and nostalgic, but being a G1 fan that shoves their unchanged 24yearsold opinions to other people is simply not cool. -__-;

Yesterday, I was just kinda hotheaded after short debate with those G1fanatic guys, and then came in here and post this clueless thread. Sorry, dudes.

BTW, G1 Prime is actually a closet homosexual. targetpreview1ub6.gif

Heck, I'm a G1 Fanboy. I even walked out of the TFA discussion panel at BotCon 2007 when they showed the prototypes of bulkhead, etc. b/c I just couldn't take take the cartoon crossover lookalike of geewun & powerpuff girls...but I did just get thru watching all the animated eps now that I'm on spring break, giving it a chance seeing how close they're trying to win over g1 fans w/ all the throwbacks, and I have to say it's not too bad. It's the most watchable TF's since G1. I cudn't even watch any other series for a whole ep, that it annoyed me that much, but this series shows some promise w/ it's hand drawn animations, & more G1 like sound effects & voice acting. I wish Cullen did prime & welker did megatron, but that starscream is pretty good, since lata is dead. Ultra Magnus sounds like Robert Stack, is it him? Nice to hear sue blu again... It's nice to see that the main character that took spike's place is a minority female, very progressive to use an indian girl, even tho she looks Filipina! LoLz!! I don't think I'll buy any of the figures, cuz I don't like the designs, but I must pick up a Sari figure! thumbsup1.gif

I just don't get y ratchet has the personality of G1 ironhide, wus wrong wit Ratchet being Papa Smurf...
I.S.T.
Robert Stack has been dead for nearly 12 years. You should also go back and watch those episodes and TF:TM; There's quite a bit of difference between the two voices.
Goktimus Prime
Optimus Prime has the persona of Optimus Primal, Soundwave has the persona of Shockwave and Sentinel Prime has the persona of an arsehole. icon_wink.gif But I don't hold that against TFA - it's a whole different universe and these are entirely different characters. I have reasons for liking and disliking certain characters in the show, but it's got little to do with G1.

Btw Caine, the "G1 fanboys" you're referring to are often called "GeeWunners" rather than actual G1 fans. Almost all Transformer fans are fans of G1, but some are fans of GeeWun.

There's a fine difference between being a fan of G1 and fan of GeeWun. GeeWunners tend to be quite ignorant of anything that Transformers produced after 1987 and thus have a prejudiced view towards non-G1 mediums fueled by said ignorance.

The following is an excerpt from Transformers Wikia...

"GEEWUN is a snarky fan term for people who seem to have knee-jerk negative reactions to, and continuing difficulty in tolerating any of the post-Generation 1 (aka "G1") incarnations of the Transformers property."

I first encountered GeeWunners during G1 - before the name "G1" was ever even thought about. During the later years of G1 (post 1987) I often encountered other kids who thought that it was strange that I still liked Transformers and considered the first three years of G1 (1984-87) to be the best years of G1 and consequently see everything from after that in a very negative light - often born from ignorance. GeeWunners also have an ignorant dislike for G2.

GeeWunners really became a lot more vocal/noticeable when Beast Wars came out - though I'm sure that the existence of the internet would've exacerbated things. I'm sure many of us remember the amount of absolute hatred that GeeWunners had toward Beast Wars simply because it was different - they took objection to the fact that HasTak had "dared" to make Transformers into animals. It was during this heightened time of GeeWunn that gave birth to TRUKK NOT MUNKY. Year after year, GeeWunners kept complaining about all subsequent lines/incarnations of Transformers because nothing can ever be as good as early G1 in their eyes.

So really, we've seen GeeWunners running around for the last 20 odd years, being most particularly vocal for the past 11 years.

To be honest, I find that GeeWunners tend to be the most ignorant amongst Transfans - they often know very little about G1 despite being "avid lovers" of it. I find that most of their affection for G1 stems from warm-fuzzy nostalgia - GeeWunners are typically not "continual" (for lack of a better word) fans - i.e.: they're people who have stopped collecting Transformers for some time - usually a long time for several years, and have only more recently gotten back into TF collecting. Not all "born again" fans are GeeWunners (and I'm not trying to put down born agains here), but I find that the majority of GeeWunners are born-agains. I find that there are far less GeeWunners amongst 'continual' fans.

And there are different kinds of born again fans. Some have come to embrace other TF mediums, others haven't - and amongst those who haven't, you have different kinds again. You have those who simply say that they're just not interested in TFs outside of G1 - they don't necessarily have any opinions on non-G1 TFs, but they're just only interested in G1. The ones that tend to be labelled as GeeWunn fans though are the same, only that they do have opinions - negative opinions - on non-G1 TFs.

But yeah - in short, you're talking "GeeWun" fans, not G1 fans per se. icon_wink.gif

Actually, the d00d who does TFA's Magnus does indeed have a creepy resemblance to Stack. It's not exactly the same, of course, but it does make one pause.

Yeah, I got that same impression. It's not a spot-on imitation of Stack, but every now and then there's a little intonation or inflection that is very Movie Ultra Magnus-like.

Ultra Magnus ALWAYS sounds like Robert Stack in my brain, though, so it may be Pavlovian.

Talk to any fans of other shows? Star Wars? Star Trek? Dr Who?? (by the way, I don't watch any of those). My point is, with any series, you're always gonna have die-hard, stalwart fans who will hold the originating continuum on a gold encrusted pedestal and continually shower it with ambrosia no matter how old and stale it eventually gets.

Don't indulge it or complain about it (it gives them food).

Huh, I thought he died back in 1996.

Anyway...

The voice is very different. Am i the only one who notices how much higher pitched it is compared to Stack's? It's like a high pitched guy trying to do a low pitched voice.
