Full Version: Original Megatron voice Petition?

Has anyone done this on any boards for the next movie.
As an old school fan am still upset about Frank Welker not being Megatron. Its like if Lucas had someone else do the voice for Darth Vader.
Peter Cullen, the original voice of Optimus Prime and Frank Welker reprises his role of Megatron in the Transformers 2007 Action Game.
Why not the movies?
We are the ones that buy the tickets and toys and everything else.
Mr Bay did change the Megatrons face after we spoke up.
Frank Welker needs to come back to the fold.

Did you see how the fans of Jericho got the show back?
The sent peanuts to the studios and said "Nuts to them"

Maybe we have to do something like this to get them to listen

No thanks.

This Megatron isn't the same character Welker voiced in the 80s. He's a great actor, but he's wrong for the role in this case (I haven't liked the voice in the cut scenes from the game that I've seen) and I think Weaving did a fine job.

Plus, there's the continuity to consider. I don't want the voices changing mid-trilogy if they don't have to (except for Bumblebee's, but we can blame that on his voice unit still being under repair).

Welcome to the board, in any case. wave.gif

Sorry...I preferred Weaving for my Movie Megatron.

Welker auditioned and didn't get the part.

Weaving audtioned, got the part, and did a great job.

Being upset by that now would be the same as still being upset that Gore lost Florda.

This is even an issue? wtf1.gif

New member. Probably hasn't realized that the collective fandom has pretty much grown over it, and itself.

Fans are not the main public for this movie. NEW people, unfamiliar with the franchise, are. Fans buy a lot of toys. But, it's barely 1 percent of total transformer sales across the globe. Market to the fans, or the other 99%? I think the choice is obvious, and that those who have been here as a part of the fandom for quite some time have grown to learn this. New peopel, like the Original Poster, don't, and still have illusions of importance.

I think it was a part of the DVD extras where they showed a clip of Movie Megatron with Welker's voice and wih Weaving's voice: Welker's megatron voice just did not fit.

Welcome to the boards. I mean no disrespect, I just love this comic so much I have to post it each time something like this comes up....

The rending of the garment made me lol
Smooth Jazz
The entire last panel made me lol, especially the disclaimer at the bottom.

The only way for Welker to have sounded right as Megatron (using the original Megs voice and not one of his dozens of other voices) would have been to process it heavily, which they did anyway with Weaving's voice but I think Weaving was the best fit.

Y'know, I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but when they announced that Peter Cullen would be Prime I was actually a bit worried that it wouldn't sound as well-acted and instead just sound very fanboy-ish. Of course I was wrong, he voiced the part well and it wasn't just fanwank, but the fear crossed my mind.

I wasn't crazy about the idea either, but Cullen pulled it out.

I've listened to Welker's voice in the game, and while he wasn't being directed by Bay, his voice just sounded terrible nonetheless.

As an old school fan am still upset about DAVID KAYE not being Megatron. Its like if Lucas had someone else do the voice for Darth Vader.

FIX'D. At least, that's what I was saying before the movie. Now I don't really care.

As for Welker voicing Megatron in the muvee? Sorry, having the main villain sound like Fred from Scooby Doo = FAIL.

Besides, it's not like he needed the work.
Agent TMan
I like welker but His Meg's is too cartoony

I rather liked Weaving as Megatron (although an after thought I had was Jeremy Irons would have been just as good, they're both good at that kind of role as far as the vocals are concerned).

And I watched the special feature on the DVD where they showed Megatron calling Starscream a failure (using audio from the Gen1 cartoon), and then putting it to the part where he does it in the movie, comparing Welker and Weaving, and having the game with Welker voicing Megatron, it's just off in more ways than one.

Yeah, Welker might be good for G1 Megatron or Soundwave (if the character appears in the second movie) or pretty much most of his other roles.

But I like Hugo for Movie Megs
Goktimus Prime
I much prefer Hugo Weaving's voice for Megatron over Welker's. Welker's Megatron voice is IMO too cartoonish. I loved Weaving as Megatron. Now I'm not sure if Megatron will even appear in TF2 (and I don't want to know - so no spoilers please!) - personally I hope not, after having killed Megatron in TF1 I think it would be cheap to bring him back so soon. If Bay wants to bring Megatron back, save it for TF3. Let Starscream have his moment in the Sun. They could possibly bring Megatron back at the very end of TF2 as a kind of "cliffhanger" or lead to TF3... it'd be a cool "Easter Egg" scene to see in the ending credits, eheheheh.

Excellent point.

Basically in any contest there will always be a winner and many losers. Weaving and Welker auditioned (as I'm sure several other actors would have as well) and Weaving got the job.

And as Bay said on the DVD, Cullen did actually audition for the role and he got it through on his own merit. smiletf.gif

P.S.: This clip shows Weaving's Megatron voice without electronic modification. It's also interesting to see that Megatron did originally have at least one line in Decepticonese but it obviously didn't make the final cut (he's the only Decepticon that exclusively speaks in English).

Teh INTERNETS ^_^
Weaving for life!

-note to Welker proponists, please don't kill Hugo...
I'm Batman
Weaving's voice really brought movie Megatron to life. I see no reason to change it.
WarMegatron
If you want Weiker, go watch the cartoon and let the Fans of the Movie have the better of the Megatron voices...I honestly wish that Hugo would have done the game also. 07evil.gif 07evil.gif 07evil.gif

*I* can do G1 Soundwave's voice... and so can you. Just do a Dr. Claw voice and run it through a Vocoder. voila!

Here's my reasoning for preferring Welker:

Yes, Weaving's voice is great for the movie Megatron... That particular design of Megatron. Since I didn't like the design of Megatron, I also didn't care for his voice either. Basically the whole package was a letdown for me. Maybe that's the reason I wanted to see Welker's version. Weaving did a good job in fact, its just that I didn't like the design and concept. By the same token (as I've mentioned before) I did rather like the new Ironhide, whereas I didn't much like the old one.
Goktimus Prime
Would the voice actor really make much of a difference if you just dislike the visual concept and design of the character? (o_O)

Dude, Cullen's Ironhide RULED SKOOL!

Ironhide having an uppity-rich-white-guy-psuedo-British accent was way more disappointed than Megatron not sounding like Dr. Claw.
