Sari being Sumdac's dead wife/mom = N.G.E. Rip-off.

It was just the first thing that came to mind. Not that I even know what N.G.E. is.

Neon Genesis Evangelion. Famous Anime, and the biggest "Spiraling towards disaster" series you have ever seen. That plotmove is especially jarring since it is set up with all the elements of a comedy.

Main character is Shinji Ikari, who has a bad relationship with his father, Gendo. He winds up being the most successful pilot for one of the Big-ass Robots that fall under Gendo's jurisdiction. Both of the other pilots are girls of about Shinji's age, one a fiery redhead, Asuka, the other a pale silent and shy type, Rei.

Sounds like the recipe for a typical japanese comedy anime, but it's not.

Rei has no real contact except with Gendo, until Shinji comes along. Rei and Shinji get close, and in the meantime we get subtle hints that there may be more going on than meets the eye between Rei and Gendo. Turns out, Rei is the clone of Shinji's dead mother, Gendo's wife, with Alien DNA involved, the same Alien DNA that is also present in Shinji. So, Rei's both Shinji's halfsister and his mother. And that's just the plotline with Rei, which ends about halfway through the series. Other Reis pop up, but those are just clones.

But, yes, let's leave this kind of discussion in the threads dedicated to it.

Are the Elite Guard going to be permant in the show or was it just for this episode?

I wish they would alter Ultra Mangus' animated figure and release a Classics version [so we can get away from the white wash every Prime figure and slap Ultra Magnus on the box lazyness mode Hasbro is in now]

They apparently haven't left Earth after this episode, that's at least clear.

I think he means that's why he wants an altered version for Classics... something that would aesthetically fit with the line that isn't the white repaint of Classics Prime.

FYI Animated Jazz is really super awesome

And I'll ask the question:

would it have been so hard for him to be like this in the movie?

"We get our personalities from the INTERNET" means that they could literally have any character type they wanted.

Just a little post-Bay meh

I agree. Any love I had for Movie Jazz was squelched this morning as I watched Animated Jazz be so homagey and so new all at once.

I think Bay struggled with the idea of the Transformers being characters - not because they were alien robots and he couldn't relate to them or anything, but because A) Bay isn't exactly "Mr. Character" to begin with, but even more importantly B) Bay had never tried to tell a story with that much added in post before. He's not exactly new to post production special effects, but to put characters in during post? Not his bag, baby.

Hopefully the sequel will result in some more impressive character subtlety as Bay becomes more accustomed to the process...I don't think he'll hit "Animated" good, though.

Okay, so Sentinel Prime is Captain America and Ultra Magnus is Thor. Who are the rest of the Avengers in this series?

Okay, so Sentinel Prime is Captain America and Ultra Magnus is Thor. Who are the rest of the Avengers in this series?

I think all Autobot Academy bots just get a cool melee weapon: axe, hammer, nunchucks, shield...I don't think there's meant to be an Avengers parallel just because the guy with the shield and the guy with the hammer* both showed up today.

*Granted, the hammer has lightning powers, so it's probably "Thor inspired", but let's not forget that there was a Thor long before there were comic books.
Whisky Tango Foxtrot
Elita-1 didn't get a weapon.

And I'm pretty sure Sentinel threw his mighty shield Captain America-style in "Along Came a Spider". I don't have the episode available to check, though.
DarkNarcoleptic
Elita-1's melee weapon was her hands. tounge1.gif
Agent Zero
Pfft, so SP has a shield. He's more Tick then anything. And that's alright by me thumbsup1.gif

I think he did...but once you create a character with only a "shield" as a weapon, having him throw it seems to be an inevitability when writing battle scenes.
Blitz
so yeah this is one of the best so far

as for sari its been shown she is at least partly organic with the DNA and that aging stuff so my guess is that the all spark made her to be some sort of go between like in the star trek movie that had that bold chic at least that would prove why she has no record of ever being born + having no mother
Paxtin
I want a Ultra Magnus figure Now! I want to at least see one. That's going to be a cool figure. I also want to see a Sentinel Prime figure, cause I still can't quite get my head around how exactly his transformation works. I need to see what it really looks like in toy form.

Good episode. The reveal at the end should prove to be an interesting story arc that will probably slowly unfold on the side of every episode from this point on.
As for the whole Allspark shard thing: Yeah it's a plot mechanic right from a page of Inuyasha, but I'm willing to let it slide; since it's most likely to be just a sub plot that keeps the characters busy to move the actual story/stories forward. It probably will also be used to introduce new characters into the show. Infact I'm quite certain of that.

QUOTE (Smooth Jazz @ Apr 12 2008, 03:20 PM) *
One thing I noticed: Optimus Prime mentioned he and Sentinel Prime were of equal rank. He seemed to emphasize the "Prime" when he said it, as if Prime is their rank. They also seemed to allude that "Ultra" was Magnus's rank. Any chance that's the case? And if so, does Jazz have a rank suffix (or prefix) and simply isn't addressed by it?

Yeah, it's like a military rank. I caught that early on in the show when I noticed both Optimus and Sentinel had the title Prime. From the way it seems, (In this show) it's basically like the Cybertroian equivalent to "Captain". Which would probably make "Ultra" Magnus a General.
As for Jazz, I don't recall if he was referred to by rank, but I would bet it's something around the title of a Lieutenant.

So her copying ability really doesn't count?
Whisky Tango Foxtrot
Sure she has an ability, but we were talking about melee weapons like Optimus's axe, Sentinel's sheild and Magnus's hammer.

Getting back off this tangent, one thing that bothered me about Jazz in this episode is his nunchuks. In the show they have one glowing blue handle and one grey, but on all the pictures of the toy I've seen they're both grey. Would it have killed them to use a bit of transparent blue plastic in the thing, or at least paint it?
DarkNarcoleptic
Is it that big a deal? optimuslaugh2.gif

For irony, Bumblebee's rocket packs are translucent blue, whereas they aren't in the show. wtf1.gif

Yeah I noticed that too. But the reason the toy isn't like that is because the nunchuks become the exhaust pipes on the side of his vehicle mode. So I guess the real question is: why didn't they make the cartoon like the toy?
In the long run though, it's a small detail that doesn't really bother me.

This was one awesome episode. The writing was strong, and the character interactions were fantastic. The animation was top quality as well.

Sari is not a robot. But she is techno-organic. When she asked the All Spark why it chose her, it showed her her DNA encased inside a Spark. My guess? years ago, while rooting around inside Megatron's head, a piece of Megatron's Spark interacted with some of Isaac's, ahem, DNA, and both got imbued into some sort of android frame that was lying around. Isaac was completely floored discover he had inadvertently created a real little girl, and kept her fiercely hidden away, and out of school.

This explains a minor mystery about her: who her mommy was. Her mommy was Megatron!

Am I missing something?
But how did tiny chunks of the all sparks get in everything?
After it blew up, did the pieces just fly around lodging themselves onto everything robotic? Since Sumdac didn't have access to the allspark itself.
DarkNarcoleptic
I think a better question is, "Why is Jesse Jackson now in charge of Sumdac's company?"

I'm willing to bet his toy isn't going to get that hammer, while Lugnut has it and doesn't get to use it in the cartoon. Pity, though I still want that Magnus toy nonetheless.

But Classics Prime is. Hence why I said I wish they would alter the Animated figure to fit into the Classics line as well. Nearly all the recent Magnus releases have been white washed Primes. Plus his missle carrier mode looks cooler than car carrier mode.
Blitz
its going to be interesting to see what happens when Sentinel prime meets BA for the first time...
Father Time
So, what I really like as a result of this episode, is the fact that the Elite Guard is now stationed on Earth. Which means Ultra Magnus is now the leader of the Autobots on Earth, and Optimus Prime has to report to him.

Jazz and Prowl need more team-ups. As said before, Jazz/Prowl BFF.

And, really how can you not like Jazz: He's obviously powerful, being an Autobot Elite Guard, and next to Ultra Magnus the emotional cripple and J.E.R.K. Sentinel, everybody looks good.

agreed

if this becomes "the hunt for allspark crystals" I am gonna stop watching though

Let's check the episode descriptions shall we? WARNING: BIG SPOILERS HERE!

Episode 20: Garbage In, Garbage Out
AllSpark energy turns junk pile into a sentient robot who tries to help the Autobots, but ends up doing more harm than good.

New Transformer: Wreck Gar.

Episode 21: Velocity
Investigating a mysterious race car, Bumblebee gets involved with an illegal underground street racing circuit, which also captures the attention of the Decepticons.

New Transformer: Blurr

Episode 22: Rise of the Constructicons
Bulkhead befriends a pair of construction vehicles brought to life by AllSpark energy. But the Decepticons have their scanners set on the duo for their latest construction project.

New Transformers: Scavenger and Mixmaster

Episode 23: A Fistfull of Energon
Prowl goes off on his own to capture the fugitive Starscream, but finds some competitions in the form of a Decepticon bounty hunter.

New Transformer: Oil Slick
Returning Transformer: Starscream
I've got to admit here that Allspark bit may not be necessary in this episodes.

Episode 26: Black Friday
Blackarachnia enlists Prometheus Black - aka Meltdown - to aid her with a dangerous experiment, while Prime & Dinobot Grimlock are forced to team up to stop them.

Gee, what will they use in that experiment...

And last, but not least, my personal favorite (though this one is just my personal speculation):

Episode 27: Sari, No One's Home
Left along in the Autobots' home base, Sari must defend it against an intrusion by the Constructicons.

New Transformer: The G1 nod of Constructicons vs. Omega Supreme is just waiting to happen here. That and the ship being the closest to the blast as you can get.

I'd say it's pretty clear what's going to happen with some of those Allspark crystals for the next few episodes.

Megatron's spark was in his body for the past 50 years, not his head. The fact that Sumdac didn't discover Megatron's body until just recently means that there's no possibility of his spark being involved in anything Sumdac built.

As Megatron said to him, "You know nothing of the spark."

And yes, we know that TF heads can continue to exist and function when separated from their bodies, thanks to the "Headmaster" episode.
