Full Version: YouTube's now officially banned from Indonesia

First of all, this thread isn't about Fitna itself, so be easy, kay? It's more about the lack of knowledge from Indonesia's government about internet freedom of speech.

Some Muslim organizations based on the nation's capital city of Jakarta, even declared fatwa to start sweeping and kickin' Dutch people out of this nation because they considered Netherlands have insulted their most holy religion of Islam. Some other start rioting at Dutch Embassy on Jakarta, throwing eggs, bottles and other materials. And even more violently, some other organization, mostly the Majelis Mujahideen Indonesia / Indonesian Mujahideen Council, the largest and government-backed radical Muslim organization, stated that Geert Wilders are legal to be killed in the name of Allah. And funny thing is, Indonesian president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, concurs with that and stated that Geert Wilders is banned from ever entering Indonesia.

Also, beside YouTube, all ISPs here on Indonesia have blocked MySpace, Metacafe, Rapidshare, Blogspot and some other sites that contain Fitna movie material. It just proves to us here that the Indonesian government knows no shot about internet. Heck, their ministers even knows no shot about e-mail & Google. All they know are only praise Islam & more corruption.

Now the question is, some afraid this blockade will lasts forever. Which means, goodbye YouTube & goodbye TFAnimated for me myself.

YouTube got banninated from Islamiyya Jumhouriyah al Indonesiya.

Heard it somewhere quite some time before, and such word, along with its absurdity, suits pretty well with Indonesia.

Anyway, LOL, capable to re-access YouTube via PolySolve ... clap.gif

Just you wait 'til Judeofascism, Christianifascism, and Islamofascism all get together an' create a genetically cloned super-mega-ultra-Abrahamofascism to rule them all!

How silly of me.. to use religious/political humor on someone who thinks the western media is more biased than the Chinese government's "news". rolleyestf.gif

Considering that 90% of the content on YouTube is complete sh!t anyway, who cares? tounge1.gif

How is this worse than all the websites that are already blocked in China? Like Wikipedia, which is far more useful than Youtube?

Because it is stating something bad about China by expanding on governmental censorship and not fitting narrowly your defined dislike of the Indonesian government and frequent badmouthing of the Islamic faith?

Shifty-eyed look. Calls Muhammad and Gabriel, tells them someone's on to us....

Anyway, I find it funny that someone who defends the PRoC's censoring of the internet is upset at Indonesia doing the same thing.

So to Indonesia, hey guys, whatever floats your boat. Have at it.

LOL, this threat only lasts for 24 hours, unlike the previously rumored of 2 weeks. Because despite many complaints from Islamic organizations and governments, the internet providers here received much larger complaints from many national-scale companies that also relied heavily upon e-commerce. icon_wink.gif

Sounds like you have an awesome government.

During the massive internet blockage few days ago, not just YouTube, but many foreign sites, even MySpace, Metacafe, Multiply, Blogspot, Rapidshare, Megaupload, and countless others are being blocked by the ISPs for 1 - 3 days (depending on the ISP, while my subscribed ISP only blocks them all for 24 hours). They're all blocked regardless of whatever the vast contents are but more because of all those sites contain "Fitna" materials, which is ridiculous.

Anyway, just back from 2-days business trip to Malaysia today, and reading news that many institutions also insisted the government to abolish such childish and undemocratic law, since Indonesia isn't really an Islamic nation like Malaysia, Brunei, Saudi, etc, but just a Islamic-wannabe, with all those hardline Muslim organizations being allowed here on Indonesia. Funny thing is, during 2-days of stay on Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.. yesterday, they didn't cared much nor even blocked YouTube and other countless websites that contain "Fitna" materials, considering the fact that Malaysia is an Islamic state, but far more moderate than a Islamic-wannabe like Indonesia.

Also, Mr Glue or Bombshell, objectively speaking, freedom of speech here on South East Asia is much free than mainland China. My overall pro-Beijing subjectivity isn't because I'm a communist symphatizer, blinded by propaganda (LOL, I could access news from everywhere I want without fearing of getting arrested by Indonesian police, etc), etc... Well, I just don't like seeing my homeland getting covered in news from strongly offensive point of view. Yeah, a nationalist at heart. tounge1.gif

Yes, it does. Except a lotta places have much more freedom of speech than mainland China. So that's not really objectively speaking so much as comparatively speaking. ^_^

Well I'm not bothered by bad press against my country or any other nation in the slightest(I don't have any notion of homeland, regardless of my ethnicity or nationality -- maybe northern California?), if they deserve it. Course, I'm not really that bothered by bad press even when someone doesn't deserve it. But I suppose I shouldn't expect others not to be bothered by something just because I'm not.

I just don't see why any political entity should be exempt from criticism, especially just for being one's "homeland" (of course, I don't think they should be exempt from criticism, period). And both the US and China have deserved plenty of bad press for their various actions. The criticism could be wrong? Heh. Reality is highly subjective. And even if one considers the worst case, there are many things in this world worse than unfair criticism.

Okay then, no more arguments on this case. Hope we could end all those needless & harsh political talks right here. Actually, I'm not interested on internet debates, but the previous Tibetan thread just kinda ticks me off. Still got some other things to do. Beside, I'm kinda tired today after arriving from Malaysia. -_-

Oh and, regarding the on-topic discussion of this thread, apparently, the ISP still blocking certain blogs, despite the end of blockage to most of US / Internationally-hosted famous websites due to Fitna.

Best post in thread.

That's the thing about having an uncensored internet -- you can read news from anywhere.

Don't take it personally, it's all just differences of opinion. I pretty much have to avoid any Israel vs. Palestine discussions for that same reason.
