Just wondering what everyone's fave 3 Heroes and Villains are. Only those that started in a comic, or are now featured in comics. No TV/Movie etc exclusive characters...

Father Time
Well, some current interpretations of classic heroes and villians I don't like, but that does not mean that the hero or villian itself isn't worthwhile. Plus, I'm usually more interested in plots than the heroes themselves.

Heroes:
1: Iron Man (Especially right now)
2: Batman (Not quite right now)
3: Spider-man (Still on the fence on this one)

Villians:
1: Lex Luthor (Just read Man of Steel
2: Doc Ock (Movie Interpretation I really liked)
3: Darkseid (When written correctly)

ooh the Hulk... yeah he's higher on my pole *snicker* than TMNT.

Question - is Hulk really a hero? I always kinda thought that Banner was the true Hero and Hulk was pretty much a villain or at the very least an unfortunate weather condition.

It depends on the phases of the Moon, what Marvel is currently smoking and who is writing it. Sometimes he's practically an evil Powerglide, other times he's mister Knight in Shining Armor.

I can understand how we could WANT Batman to be likable.

But everything thats interesting about the Hulk is that this meek little scientisty guy is the only one who can "control" him...

And I get what you are referring to - like Mr. Fix it. or the Dr.Banner Smart Hulks but those aspects of the character aren't what make the Hulk an interesting character. At that point, he's no different than say the THING (except with out the self concious bits) or Shazaam (I can turn into a bigger, smarter, more heroic version of myself KABOOM -why bother being skinny boy ever??)
Darth Caine

not nessesarily my all time favorites, but rather whats been interesting to me lately.

spiderman (normal, then ultimate) - i was really happy with everything that came out of the other, and back in black. its to bad it all got magic'd away. as for ultimate, its always fun.
black cat- dodson drawing.... mmmmm....
the sentry- so marvel has a superman now. but what i like about him(because i hate superman), is that they gave him boundries what with his severely damaged mind and dangerous powers. and his origin story i thought was pretty brilliant.

green goblin (norman) - for when he was wreaking havok in peter parker sm v2. and i loved the costume redesign.
morlun/ezekial- a new type of villain for spidey. they were interesting. but they served their purpose and i dont think we need to see them again.
the menace- great design. reminds me of the possesed hobgoblin. and a character shrouded in mystery is always interesting.

though i think ultimate spiderman has become sort of redundant since "brand new day" started.

I agree, the Hulk only works for me when he's just pure RAAARRRRR and stuff ("HULK SMASH" is a bit too "me, Grimlock" for my taste). I don't think the Hulk himself is heroic, but I meant the character of Banner/Hulk overall. What makes him interesting to me is the internal tension w/ Banner. The Hulk is just an expression of part of Banner's psyche, so it's not like (to me) he's an actual "character" separate from Banner. JMO

Heroes:
1. Batman
2. Superman
3. Witchblade redface2tf.gif

Villians:
Now that I think about it, I don't really have any favorite villans (in the sense that I'd maybe go out of my way to pick up a book that featured a particular villian).
Bestimus Mucho
Heroes
1. Animal Man (from the comic of the same name)
2. Wee Hughie (from The Boys)
3. The Maxx (from the Maxx)

Villians
1) Mister Nobody (From Doom Patrol)
2) Bizarro (Superman)
3) Homelander (the Boys)

It depends on which comics you've read, really. Ever since 1989 or so, the hulk has been a seperate personality inside banner.

Basically, a writer decided to throw in a massive retcon and make the Gray Hulk an actual character rather than a coloring error(As marvel claimed for many years), making him into an alternate personality as well.

The big retcon is that Banner was severely abused as a child, and his mind was further fractured by the gamma bomb, turning the gray and green hulks into full blown personalities/beings.

This is one of the few retcons that has been universally applied by every or almost every writer of the Hulk in the normal marvel universe. Typically, major retcons of this type(Straying quite a bit from the established character) get forgotten after a few/several years.

Frankly, I'd like to see a Hulk movie that explored that idea, but I know that will never happen.
