Full Version: I Know That The Chances Of This Happening Are Slim And Nill

Okay I admit it. I like Gobots almost as much as I like Transformers so I registered at Toon Zone.net and I found out something very interesting.

I asked about the Gobots TV show coming on DVD:

QUOTE
I know that the odds of this ever happening are slim and nill but are the copyrights that Hasbro has over the Gobots preventing the show from coming out on DVD?
That is the one cartoon of my past that I would like to have put out as a DVD set. But it's taking too long to get it out there, if it ever gets out there, and I'd like to know what's holding it up? The last time I saw it was on CHCH TV 11 Hamilton when Gobots Battle of the Rocklords came out and that was over 20 years ago.
I've been watching COTGB on You Tube but it's not the same as watching it on TV.
What are the chances that the show will come out on DVD within the next year?

And I got this response:

QUOTE
I'd love to see CotGB out on DVD myself, but it's chances of coming out within the next year are extremely thin, considering WB's just NOW starting to dip into it's 80's properties (The 80's Superfriends shows and The first season of the Smurfs). I'd expect the bigger properties to get released first before something as obscure as Gobots is considered.

Except the Gobots name isn't owned by the WB. It's owned by Hasbro. So after their partnership deal with the sadist toy company is over Paramount would be able to release the Gobots show on DVD. The only thing that I don't know is when the Hasbro/Paramount deal is going to be over?
So I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed.

While Hasbro owns the Gobots names, the show was created by Hanna-Barbera, who in something like the last five years, was purchased and absorbed by Warner Bros...which gives WB ownership of just about 90% of the HB titles.

Not sure what the legal standings on the show title would be, tho. I'd imagine they'll just license the title(and names) from Hasbro...but I don't think the Hasbro/Paramount team-up has anything to do with preventing a release.

Well WB did bring some of its classics to DVD, and chances are if the demand is there, then they'll do something for Gobots. Might not be a long term commitment, but maybe they'll see something of a "collection" DVD where they showcase particular episodes. I mean if someone can put "Heman/She-Ra Christmas Special" then someone might get the idea to do the same for Gobots.
New Soundwave
I want a official set of Gobots as well, but the way things stand right now there are only 2 choices:
get a fan made set, or watch what's up on youtube.

I'm kind of hoping for a full DVD box set. They had two five parters that I would just love to have on DVD. The Battle for Gobotron is one and the Gobotron Saga is the other. But I know that the odds of that happening within the next year are just about, well, slim and nill.

As much as I like to watch Gobots episodes on You Tube I'd rather see them on TV either in the form of a DVD set or even better yet on TV. Maybe on Teletoon Retro in Canada and on Boomerang in the U.S. but they'd have to compete with Transformers Animated, and truthfully there's no competition there because TFA isn't as good as I anticipated, it would be good to see Gobots compete agaisnt the Transformers again.

Hell, I'd even pay good money to see some Gobots toys on toy shelves again but I know that's not going to happen either.

That cartoon was horrible! Why would you pay good money for it? The stories, bad. The animation, worse and the voice actors could act their way out of a paper bag! ( and it sounded like half of them where acting from under a bag!) Give it up, move on!

What are you smoking cheese?

Okay so the Gobots had some flaws and it only lasted 3 months but come on! Transformers Animated better than Gobots? I don't think so. My cousin's 2 year old that can draw better than that.
