so, you may remember that me and a buddy ordered a bunch of parts. well, he got them in, got 'em all in installed and now can get no video at all.

all the fans are working, but asus told him that it's either the MOBO being bad, or the power supply being incompatable with the MOBO (they told him his ps isn't recommended for that MOBO). i need some opinions on what this could be. i feel bad for him so if he has to get a new ps i'm probably gonna give him the money to ship it out. we just want to make sure this is what the problem is. no sense paying all that for nothing.

this is the ps

this is the mobo

and this is the video card

now, like i said, he's got a green light on the mobo, all the fans are working including the fan on the video card, but he's getting no video response at all. do you think the video card is bad, or maybe he needs a dvi connection or something? i can't imagine it'd be stuck in dvi when it's got both outs, but i've heard stranger things.

Well, it says that the video card requires a PCI-E compliant PSU, and your PSU has a PCI-E connector. As far as the board, your board is SLI compliant but I don't see where the PSU or the video card is. That might be where they're finding issue, but I don't see where that would be one. I'm thinking there might be a BIOS setting that's not being set right. Can you get a boot screen?

Actually, take that back. Your PSU is rated for ATX 12V V1.3. Asus says it requires a ATX 12V V2.0 compliant PSU. Not sure what difference that makes, but if you can get a boot screen it wouldn't hurt to doublecheck the BIOS settings. See if SLi is enabled and disable it. You might also check to see if any jumpers on the mobo are in the wrong position.

First thing that comes to mind... memory.

As far as the PSU issue, the worst case scenario with that is you won't be able to use all the power settings, or the computer might randomly lock up.

If you have a PCI video card you can put in there to test, it might help.

well, he's just going to send the video card back. it sounded like a video card problem to me to start with. i got another tech friend that said he strongly feels like it's the video card, but it is a possibility that it's the MOBO. so yea, i'm just gonna help him return the vid card, then if it's the mobo i'll help him send that in too. i feel really bad for him so i'm gonna try to help him out.

While the PSU may not be an issue now, I would switch it out. That one will probably fail and take several components with it in two to three years.

My god I can't agree with you more. I can't really do much of anything right now due to disabilities. >.<

well, i can do stuff, it's just not very healthy for me. not to mention it hurts like a Starscream. however, when it's starting to really drag the quality of my life down it doesn't really matter either way. me and the wife really wanna have a kid and we sure as hell can't do that with only 900 a month. so i've got more motivations other than not being able to do jack Blot tounge1.gif just gotta wait till next month so we can get the wife's teeth taken care of. the local verizon wireless office is hiring CS reps so that isn't all that bad, i'll just have to take 2x lacix when i get home and watch my potassium levels.

My problem is fibromyalgia... Rather uncommon in males my age. The pain I grow to put up with.

It's the Powerglideing immobilizing I hate.

This is impossible to tell the real reason it isn't working by talking over the phone. The only real way is to try other components. There are many times where we jump the gun at work and guess as to the problem of something, and end up switching out everything trying to figure it out.

i know, i hate doing things this way. we just don't know anybody that could test the card out other than me, and i'm well... yea about 4 hrs away lol.
