Has anyone else noticed they seem to go heavy on the girl toy commercials during all of the boy shows?

All of the Bratz commercials... it's disgusting. Nevermind the fact that they seem to be trying to turn kids into transgender freaks before they get out of grade school, but Bratz toys are the worst. They're slutty little gutter trash looking dolls. How could a parent in their right mind buy one of these things for their kid.

Cartoon Network... yet another epic fail.

"Girl" toys have always been advertised heavily on "Boy" shows. I take it you've missed out on the last 15 years of cartoons?

And you can't blame CN for the Bratz doll ads without blaming every other network.

The biggest blame needs to go to parents. You see, those dolls are based off of what the designers see kids wearing.

So, yeah, CN's in the clear.

When I used to watch TF G1 toons they advertosed Transformers toys, GI Joe toys/comics, board games, cereal... but not girls toys. But g1 was over 20 years ago... I took a break around the 15 years ago mark to pursue other ventures like grabbing Titanium and getting a job...

I should mention I'm 20, so I grew up watching all those ads.

I should mention I'm 33... so I watched cartoons back in the days when men were men and played with guns and other manly stuff that would prepare them for the violent commie-killing future.... while girls played with kitchens and other girl stuff to prepare them for their future serving men. icon_wink.gif

I don't think G1 is included in the "last 15 years" of cartoons, being about 24 years old...

It's not just CN that's the problem. As a general trend, actionfigure toylines seem to be getting less and less advertisements on TV.

Damn right! G-d damn action figures are destroying our country!

Maybe there aren't as many "boy" commercials because toy's meant for boy's sell well on their own while girl's toys tend to be harder to sell?
Whisky Tango Foxtrot
They have to advertise girls' toys during the commercial breaks because they're advertising boys' toys with everything between the commercial breaks.
pathfinder74
Yeah, but don't they gear ads based on the viewing/target audience? How many girls watch these show?

Just admit they're f'ed up and we'll call it a day. icon_wink.gif

They pretty much stopped doing that when I was a kid, or cut down on it massively.

On normal cartoon blocks(I.E. stuff coming on at like noon) they still do, but during Saturday Morning Cartoons? Everybody watches those. I watched a lot of "girls" cartoons as a kid for various reasons, and my little sister watched a lot of "boys" cartoons as a kid for the same reasons. During that block of time, you've got both genders watching. Advertising to both of them only makes sense.

I'm agreeing big time, I've seen tons of girl toys being advertised on boy shows myself. For God sakes, do you big shots at Mattel and those dumber toy companies (Hasbro isn't one of them) bribe CN and other TV channels just to advertise you crappy toys?

There's so much fail in this post it's hard to pick just one thing to make fun of.

I'm not sure if this applies to cable networks, but the FCC's Children's Television Act sets up some fairly strict rules as to what can and cannot be advertised during "children's programming" on broadcast stations. For example, you can't advertise Batman toys during "The Batman," TMNT toys during "Ninja Turtles," and so on. The two TV stations I've worked for have taken extra care to blatantly avoid crossing this line by simply swapping out the ads like that: girls ads during boys shows and vice versa. So there you go.
