Maxi-Series ALL HAIL MEGATRON Depicts a World Without AUTOBOTS

San Diego, CA (March 19, 2008) - It’s often said that the true measure of a hero is based on the quality of the villain—and TRANSFORMERS has some of the greatest villains in pop culture. But the heroic AUTOBOTS have kept the evil DECEPTICONS in check—until now.

Starting in July, IDW Publishing will unveil a turning point in the TRANSFORMERS saga. TRANSFORMERS: ALL HAIL MEGATRON, under license from HPG, the licensing division of Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS). Set one year after the events of TRANSFORMERS: Devastation, TRANSFORMERS: ALL HAIL MEGATRON launches a new storyline that shows what happens when great heroes aren’t around to defend against their powerful villains. The DECEPTICONS, led by the ruthless MEGATRON, have somehow succeeded in dispatching the AUTOBOTS and their leader, OPTIMUS PRIME, leaving Earth ripe for the plucking.

The 12-part maxi-series takes TRANSFORMERS in an epic new direction courtesy of writer Shane McCarthy (Detective Comics, Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight) and fan-favorite artist Guido Guidi (TRANSFORMERS Spotlight: Galvatron, TRANSFORMERS Beast Wars: The Ascending). Together, they tell the tale of an Earth decimated by the DECEPTICONS. Where are the AUTOBOTS, and how did they come to be exiled from Earth? Who has changed sides, who will live, and who will die? These questions, as well as the introduction of an all-new Transformers character, will be answered in the pages of the series.

TRANSFORMERS: ALL HAIL MEGATRON #1 is being solicited for July ’08 release. It will feature a victorious MEGATRON cover by Klaus Scherwinski, as well as a distinctive variant cover by Trevor Hutchison.

Anyway..

From what I just read on TF Wiki shortly after I read the comics, I found out that it's understandable the Constructicons capable of gestalt while at the same time, not being insane as the side effect of gestalt that we witnessed on Pretenders/Monstructor. Turns out after Expansion, Decepticons managed to secure and alter Jhiaxus' gestalt technology for their own agenda. But still, ridiculously large Devastator = OMG WTF BBQ

I just read issue #1. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The cliffhanger at the end was very well done.
What the frag happened to Prime?!?!

And yeah, I don't like the Seeker downgrade. Sure it's nice to see the MP body style, but at the same time there's no real reason for them to go from F-22s to F-15s. Plus I really liked the F-22 G1 Seeker designs. (Toy Hasbro? Please?)

That said, it was cool to see the new bodies they gave some of the Autobots at the end. Prowl, Sunstreaker, and Sideswipe have their Classics/Universe bodies and Cliffjumper gets what is essentially Hot Rod's Kiss Players body without the flame deco.

JMO, but I'm guessing Blaster will make an appearance and take on Soundwave.

I've been looking forward to this series since it was first announced. I read the first issue earlier this evening and was just blown away. Guido's work just makes me uber happy! It was so nice seeing G1 designs for the 'cons and seeing Meg's just straight out chewing on the scenery and giving Starscream the backhanding he heaps on himself right off the bat.

I was a wondering how much they were going to hold back on the darker and destructive sides of the 'cons but so far, I'm impressed. Seeing empty shoes and broken cell phones laying in the rubble of the of the initial onslaught was a great indicator of the hellish ride the 'cons are about to reap on earth. Seeing Megatron just flat out blow a building off it's foundation was just plain mean! The part where the pilot cannot eject in time, that's the part that indicates to me that this entire series plans to just lay waste to any and everything in their path.

I know this is really redundant due to the stories that have came before, but this one is coming across(to me) as a no holds barred, we're here to break your good china, hump your moms and leave skid marks on your front yard(and possibly in your shorts!) kinda story, not this "Damn, Optimus pulled one outta his ass" again story arc. Yes, I know, it will go that way towards the end, but it won't go nearly as easy as usual, and that's fine with me. Bring on the brutality! Let the bad guys be bad guys once in awhile!

Wait until you read issue 3 where Astrotrain attacks ppl hiding in subway tunnels. "A train we're saved!"

The part with Astrotrain made literally laugh, and call him a psychopath.

It's why there is a chain of command in the Leadership of our country. the president dies it goes to the vp, if he dies it goes to the speaker of the house I think then followed by the speaker of the senate. Not sure who it goes to after that but then again I'm sure it's all mute since these aren't your run of the mill terrorists these are beings with more murderously explosive power than 1,000 atomic bombs. The only chance earth has is laying half dead on Cybertron, and his second, and third in command are just not emotionally fit to lead because they see the most powerful, noble of their species laying there half dead. My prediction is that Hotrod will be getting the matrix, and become Rodimus Prime.

Ok, so does it seem to anybody else that A.H.M. is taking place in another transformers universe? In issue 4, Sunstreaker is there all the sudden, couldnt tell if he was still a headmaster or not, sideswipe's arm is gone, and at the end of Revalation 4/spotlight Sideswipe, I didnt think OP was in critical condition, but now he is. Any thoughts?

No the Mechanation was mentioned in either issue 1 or 2. So it is the same universe.

I'm pretty sure the headmaster thing will be cleared up between future AHM issues and the upcoming "Maximum Dinobots" story that will wrap up the Grimlock/hunter/Sunstreaker/Skorponock/Hot Rod story.
