Looks awesome, but they're building on a very strong visual foundation set up by Singer. Provided they stick to that, it'll be the story that makes or breaks this one.
I'm optimistic, and really looking forward to the first trailer.

As long as this doesn't become Superman'd. I hope to see some nitty gritty Wolvy in this.

I'm probably going to see this as a rental at the earliest, I really disliked the X-trilogy thus far, and therefore have very little to no expectations for this one. And that comes from someone who was a huge X-Men/Wolverine fan. I loved my comics so much, and was so exited at the prospect of a live action movie, and then...meh. X3 was complete and utter crap, I wanted my 2 hours back after watching that piece of....

Yeah, going from Big burly wrestler dude of doom to the nerdy guy from Scream is kind of an odd casting choice...
Hobbes-timus Prime
Mar 7 2008, 08:55 AM
I'm down with the casting choice, as I assume it means, or at least implies that, since this is a prequel, Sabretooth was further mutated at some point between this and X1 - experiments and stuffs, maybe? I like that idea because it would explain why Wolvie and 'Tooth don't have a more personal interaction in X1 - Wolvie doesn't recognize 'Tooth post-mutation, and 'Tooth's too far gone to remember or properly communicate with Wolvie.
Of course, to be optimally cool, the film(s) would have to explain this, and not just have it be fan-speculation retcon.

I'm not even gonna bust out the comic rules on this (scent). I'll be surprised if they also bring in Maverick even if its just a camio but I'd like to see the trio together again.

I believed that Mane can and could kick ass. For him looking cool and kicking ass were the same thing.
Not so with ScreamNerd.
Smart and vindictive... ok I get it, but I still don't see how the new film benefits by stripping Sabertooth of his physicality.
(and the argument of prequel doesnt work, A) because of the aformentioned "sent" since both saber and wolvie are animal based. and B) because Jackman actually looks OLDER)

C&P FROM DM.NETS SEADIZZLE..
This Sabertooth that Liev is play is a different comic incarnation...
which is the Origins Sabertooth from the comics.

Then why put him in the movieverse and name it the same as the movieverse character if its a different character?
I mean using Jackman kinda cements which "version" of the characters they are using...

The movies haven't exactly been shy when it comes to recasting major characters with somewhat minor roles when it comes time for that character to have a bigger part, i.e. Hank McCoy and Kitty Pryde.
While I realize Sabretooth had more substantial role in the first movie than the cameos the other two had, I'm willing to look past my continuity-nerd side in order for a wrong to be righted on this one.
Sabretooth didn't deserve the lame lackey status he was relegated to in the original movie, but since it was the filmmakers' first stab at these characters and they wanted to draw in as many people as they could, they threw the kitchen sink at us and gave us a neutered Sabretooth. The first movie, while I'm quite fond of it, had a lot of problems, mostly with Sabretooth, Toad, and Singer's relatively tame action sequences.

Well coming from one who remembers the old X-Men toons as my only X-Men true reference Sabretooth did deserve lakey status.
I have a feeling that this guy will be getting bigger/more animalistic as the movie goes on...
I also HOPE that Kurt Wagner is in the film even only a cameo!

This is a great example. Hank McCoy is on the TV in 1 or 2, acting as a gene expert or something - totally human appearance. Then, in X3, blue, furry, and Frasier with no explanation - and I think the implication in X3 was he was born that way, just like Mystique and Nightcrawler...so maybe there's two really smart geneticists named Hank McCoy in the movieverse, but only one of them is a mutant.
And maybe there's two mutants calling themselves "Sabretooth" in the movieverse - and one of them worked with Magneto.[/yeahIknowthisislame]

The Tyler Mane/Sabertooth from X1 was a pale imitation of the comics character, and he totally sucked, IMO, lion-growl or not. I look forward to seeing the "necklace of human ears" Sabertooth from the comics. Not to mention the dude that guts Wolvie's girlfriend, and continues to screw with him forever and ever.
