OK so it's that time of the year where everybody is getting their tax returns and I'm in the mood to buy a PS3, BUT there are a few problems. 80GB are off the shelf, well not completely, but I believe they will no longer be restocked so they can have room for the supposed 120-160GB PS3s with the Dual Shock 3 which is yet to have a release date. It would be nice if it came out to be the same price as the 80gb, so I would get an additional 40-80gb for $100. But then I don't really care about the HDD space and the extra slots (Pro Duo and the other 2-3 slots). Also don't care about backwards compatibility. So 40GB would be a good way to go rite? But there exist a 40GB white PS3, currently only available in Asia. Anyone know how long it took the white PSP to reach US shores? I'm sold for a white one if I have to wait a month or two, but if I have to wait a year for it, I'll probably just end up getting the 40GB black one. Wether I buy one today, tomorrow or next week, there are no games that I want to buy for it. Yeah there are some great titles, but none I would want to play or even try, I've looked many times. From IGNorants point of view, the best ranked PS3 game is a PS1 game. I own a 360, so whatever games are multi platform, I'd be gettin for 360.... it's the achievements, they give "me" more replay. When it comes down to it, I just want to have a PS3.
Anyways, if you guys were in my position, as Marc Summers would say, what would you do?

You can replace the HD with a bigger one, BTW. Not a lot of people know that.
The white PS3 has been confirmed to be coming to the US, but it's not known when.
In the end, I would not buy one if there are not any games you want for it, but that's me.

Yeah really, why would you buy a console and no games? Unless you plan on using it exclusively as a Blu-Ray player, like my friend does. I usually won't invest in a new console until there are at least 10 games for it that I seriously want to buy, though I'll make an exception for the Wii if I happen to find one before Brawl comes out (which is highly unlikely).

My biggest concern with the PS3 is the imbalanced hardware specs, some games you have to install some you don't, gee I remember the sony exec that proclaimed "PC gaming is dead" now I see him having second thoughts for having to "Gasp" install a game, ye know. like on a dead gaming platform... Yutz....
The backwards compatibility function is lacking on future models, you have to buy the cables you need seperately, and above all the controllers are a joke now. I'm sorry but Sixaxis doesn't cut it, and developers have said they hate it. They are bringing out the "Dual Shock 3" rumble Controllers later this year, but stand alone they are going to cost more than your 360 wireless controller, and it'll be at least a year before you see them packaged with the console.
Other than that, Sony hasn't given me a solid reason to own a unit. When I see Zone of Enders 3.. maybe.. but thats just me.

Imbalanced hardware specs? WTF does that have to do with anything?

I heard the 40gig units don't have WiFi. I don't know if this is true or not but thats what I heard from BB and GS.
I finally picked up a 80gig unit myself from CC and got Motorstorm with it. I must admit its really nice not having to buy a WiFi adapter at an additional $100 (Evil Monkey stare at you MS). I love their BT also, my cellphone headset worked just fine.
As for the HDD, you can always upgrade later if you want so I'd say buy a 80gig now if you want backwards compatibility. You can also set up media servers too if you want.

Thanks for the replies, I actually decided to wait.... since GDC is coming Feb 18, I wanna see what Sony has planned up ahead. So in waiting, I bought DMC4 and Mass Effect to keep me busy for a while.
