I've been noticing a number of people here on TFans are from the San Francisco Bay Area. Since I am and I partially run this site, I thought that it would be cool to set up a spot where locals could talk about toys, local shopping and ultimately work on setting up some regular swap meets where people can hook up to talk, buy, sell and trade Transformers stuff.
I am already working on setting up a swap meet in San Francisco. I would love to hear from all of you out there who can attend and/or help with promoting it. This would be an event open to everyone and with no charge. Super7 Magazine has graciously offered the use of their store in Japantown for such an event. I am also looking into getting us something extra that will make the event special, but I dont want to jinx it by talking about it just yet. I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas on an event like this so please dont hesitate to ask.
But hey, this area is not just for organizing events. Its about being a Transformers fan in the Bay Area so post whatever you want about local shops, sightings, local toy shows or whatever. This place is here just for us to enjoy!

Yo Jack!

Finally found this thread, but I think it would be also good to post a link in the Sightings section too.
As I said before it would be nice to plan a potential meeting if there are enough people. Just keep us posted. I know where J-town is in SF, just went to the Kabuki last night. Good idea, lets see if we can run with this and how many people are seriously interested.

Sounds very good. Hopefully enough people turn out we can have our own west-coast mini con.

Yea! This is not restricted to members on this board. We should try to promote this section and the event somehow to other local TF collectors. I am sure we can get the word out the Berkeley and other schools.
If you guys are on other boards, please make a post letting people know we have some going on for Bay Area TF fans to talk with each other.

I think this sounds like a fantastic idea.

And Japantown sounds like a great place to meet.

I think I can arrange to get some good toys if people are looking for them. Like say would you all be into Super Link Wing Sabers for about $40 or so?

I just got my Superlink Wing Saber - he's in the background in my new sig - but I'd buy the Japanese stuff from you if I could.

I think I can get a half dozen of them. I can get more if people really want them.

Hey Jack,
I just got my 2 Wingsaber from JRS couple weeks ago. Might pick one more up you are able to get some.
Any ways you can get some of those newer superlink figures like Laserwave, Sprung, Repaint Dinobot/Insection?

Yes, I think I can get Magama type Dino's and more stuff. I dont mind bringing the stuff over just so we share the shipping expenses. The $40 Wing Sabers would be nearly cost with the shipping factored in. Still cheaper than anyone else with the shipping added in.
I am also working on get getting some DW Exclusive Shockwave prints for real cheap. Hopefully they will be 7.77 as a Super7 store special.
When do you all think would be a good time for this? End of this month or early next? I would like to set a date that we can promote for a bit beforehand.
The response has been great so far. Keep spreading the word and we maybe able to have a nice little gathering 2-4 times a year.

Looking good so far Jack. I was thinking why not try to do it before the end of this month, so most people can attend it right before the fall semester for those who go to school.

I am talking to guys at Super7 now to see when is a good time. My worry is we will have more people show up than the store can hold.

Do we have any update of when the swap meet is going to be?

Any chance we can find out of people are looking for specific figs and might want to sell or trade for them at the meeting? Worse go worse we can always take the gather over to the open air plaza up the block still in J-town and accessible to all if we post a sign and/or leave notices on the forums. Just my two cents.
Btw, Wheeljack are you on the OFTCC2005 planning committee, and/or do you go to Fanime or AX?

Yeah FM you got it down. We should all commincate about swaps beforehand. That'd be ideal I think. I was counting on doing that myself.
Sorry not affilated with OTFCC, but our man OTFCCMalin here is. I would direct any questions you have to him.
As for the date, I am still working on it. I will know for sure soon. Good news though! I have secured a small shipment of Wing Sabers at the $40 each. They should be here in a week or so. If you want one and you will pick it up for sure. PM me and I will reserve one for you.
Some words about what to bring. There wont be space for a table's worth of stuff. Try not to bring more than a medium size box or grocery bag full. If you are gonna trade a Fort Max or something, okay. But no one should be unloading their car for this. This is the Super7 store:
http://www.super7store.com/index.htm BTW. Its not very big so please use better judgement.
A couple words on why the store really makes sense. Having this as an event in the store is reliable location. Its secure. No unknows. We can set a date and even promote it. And hey, If we're not too obnoxious we can come back and do it again.
I am all for having it or another place if that make more sense. As long as its okay for a lot of people to gather and enguage in what would be percieved as some modest form of trade. What about the Sunday Alemeda Flea Market at 280 and 101? In the back there is lots of parking and it would not be out of place if you think about it. Heck we could even get a table if we had to. Anyone have any other ideas for a legal spot? Something near a Bart or Muni stop would be perfect.

.....anybody know the little town called Antioch, just past Pittsburgh???? Anybody? It's been three years since I moved to New York and I miss California greatly (born in San Diego, raised in Antioch for most o' me life)... I hope you don't mind if I just hang around a bit to shoot the breeze once in a while...? For old times' sake?

Oh cool, a group of Tf fans that live relatively close! I'm down here in Fresno, just three hours south of SF. Gotta lot of family that lives in the bay area. I'll be keeping an eye on this to see if you guys are going to have any more events. ^^
