Beast Megatron
Did anyone notice that this morning, the movie was slightly different? They aired the show's intro at the beginning (complete with the awesome theme song- it's the same intro as the one on the Cartoon Network podcast, NOT the Monkeybar one), and they aired part of the end credits with the ending instrumental theme. Cool stuff. I'm glad I recorded it on a whim.

OK Funny story!

I have a 4yo niece and a 2yo nephew, they love Transformers. They have seen most of the G1 episodes and the other series and ask all the time to watch both the original movie and the live action movie. So the other day I told them that there was a new TF cartoon coming on and they really wanted to come over and watch it with me so this morning they were over at my house and we started watching it together. When they heard the music and saw the G1 historical archives at the beginning their eyes lit up.

Well after about 10-15 minutes of watching my niece looks at me and says, "Uncle Daniel, can I go play with my pony's?" and she quits watching and goes to the other room.

Another 5-10 minutes pass and the 2yo starts to cry. I ask him what's wrong and he says, "Where's Optimus?" He pushes out his little bottom lip and keeps asking me this. Well I point out optimus to him and he looks at me mad and goes to the other room to play with his sisters pony's with her. Well I put in the TF movie and as soon as they here it they come running back into the living room and stay there the whole time watching it.

I just though it was funny.

That is funny. My 4 yr old daughter fell asleep on the couch. My 8 yr daughter was pessimistic about it saw 10 minutes and went to another room and later returned and was interested in sari mostly. My 1 yr old son didn't care too much for it (till later hopefully). thumbsup1.gif

I think that what's funny is that the children of people who don't like it, don't like it. Same for the other side really.

That's pretty much expected. I'm sure Hasbro's much more interested in the opinions of children without parents who take fictional robots so seriously, since I'm sure it's a much larger audience.

And as far as hasbro is concerned, They don't much care. The more opportunities to make toy's they know are going to sell the better. They did the same thing in the 80's with the TF movie by killing off all the old characters and introducing new ones. And lets face it the toys are going to sell and in about a year they will start introducing the 2nd movies toy's after that they will redo the cartoon and start another toy line. It's good business on their part. So weather people like the cartoon or not does not really matter hasbro will still make a lot of $$$ off of it.

I like how whenever Optimus Prime dies he turns grey and a child cries.

That is SO wrong.

Hehehe: yea it's great.

maybe there should be a list of kids who have cried over a tf's death in a cartoon laughlol.gif

i'm sure there'd be more than a dozen. the funniest one was when Alexi started crying when starsream snuffed it in armada and it looked like she was dancing.

i would of liked the key better if it just stayed in Prime's chest or gave him a new personallity/spark with the G1 qualities but that's probably just me, can't wait to see the rest of the series.

btw when i say the animation sucks i only mean the animation on the children andthe designs for them, they're even more stylised than in teen titans and for me that's far too far gone
D-Unit
I just caught the replay yesterday, so this is a little late. I ttired to look at it as if I was 6 years old, would I like it, and yeah, I would have. Me persoanlly, I'm not sold on the animation, but the writing was good, and I likd how they ended it with thte cliffhanger. I didn't like the little girl, but that's about it. Much better than any of the A/E/C toons. I think Ratchet and starscream were the best characters so far

Doomed to crash and burn? Please. any TF show would be successful after the huge hit that was the movie.

Besides, there are those of us who just liked it... I wasn't desperate for a new TF series at all. I liked the last one.

For your information... I was expecting the animation and art to be so completely horrible that it would completely ruin the experience for me... I was pleasantly surprised.

Edit: and for another thing... it's one thing to not like the series, and to voice that opinion. It's entirely another to be a jackass about it. You're trolling, which is not allowed by the site's rules...

But my 3 favorite Animated parts:

"I'm Sari"
"Don't be I like my name"

2: Reproduction

Hello everyone.smiletf.gif

Well, seeing as to how the first premiere has already premiered I'll discuss those points in another manner, past tense if you will.

1) I highly looked forward to the "Transformers Animated" premiere, especially with the new character designs and animation. Thus far, this may be my first or second favorite Transformers series.

2) I am most looking forward to Starcream's voice, as it seems to sound a bit more "unmatured" like he really is.

3) For both of those, good, I am glad it is taking somewhat of a "better" path now.

Have a great day.

I don't know if it's been mentioned already, but some of the shots in the scenes with Prowl's near-death and Prime's real death totally mirrored shots from Prime's death scene in TF:TM. Like, they were staged exactly the same. I just thought that was a cool little nod.

And this may also have been mentioned already, but I just love how they've put some real dramatic tension in this show. Prime falls from that billboard blimp thing, hits the ground and effing DIES. Which is odd in a cartoon because usually people just stand up and brush themselves off (cough*Prime in MTMTE*cough). But you watch that happen in Animated and you're like "oh yeah, I guess if you fell a thousand feet, that probably would kill you." I just think it's great that there is real danger in the show. And I also love how far Prime is from the Optimus Prime of G1, because you know that he eventually has to get to the point where he is not only able to stand up to Megatron, but defeat him mano a mano. It's going to be a really interesting journey for him. Like Rodimus Prime, you know, if he hadn't sucked.

Late to the party, but I did see it a couple days ago. I really liked it- the only other TF cartoons I've seen much of are Energon and Cybertron, and this was better than both. Great little humor bits, little throw-away jokes and such. Looking forward to more eps.

See, I would've liked that aspect of danger too... if they didn't use it as a means so show us they're in NO danger. Prowl showed us that they can be brought back from near-death and be fine. Prime showed us they can literally be brought back from death with NO problems. Now THAT I don't like. It's like they go out of their way to show us that they can die and can take damage, then go back and say "but it doesn't matter because of Sari lolol."

ok finally watched it... it wasnt bad...

loved the G1 "history" footage at the beginning. the take on prime as young and inexperienced was really refreshing. love that ultra magnus is the hardened general as well. its almost as if those two kinda role reversed for the series. voice acting was pretty tight as well. ratchet is a pretty good hybrid of his old voice and kupps (with mebbe a little ironhide thrown in). bee and prowl sound kinda gay, though. starscream's voice on the other hand is perfect. blitzwing's 3 voices? um, still dont know what to thikn of all that. little too slapstick i think. megs voice was interesting. like the graveliness(?) but i wish it was a little deeper and metallic. the backstory is a nice mix of G1 and the TF movie I think (prime turning black, starscream taking over, reverse engineered megs, allspark on earth, etc...) love the g1 transforming sounds of course. the animation wasnt as bad as i thought it was gonna be. sure its oversimplified, but it makes up for it in the speed. we havent seen bots move that fast, like, ever. bulkhead definitely my fave bot design so far followed by prowl.

where the series really loses me is with the human characters. its too "Pup named scooby doo" if u know what i mean. Sari is f**kin iirritating. i dont think i can endure a whole season with her taggin along. just use her for the allspark key and thats it! sari just adds too much girliness to a traditionally boy-geared franchise.

ill stick it out for the rest of the series tho... mebbe if they give sari a transforming bio-suit ala spike in the 1986 movie, i might enjoy it more.

I have to say, my wife and I watched it and liked it. The Original animation when it started had me wondering if this was in continuity with G1. The more we watched the more we realized this was fairly far removed from G1.

That being a disappointment, I think this was as good as RID or Beast Wars.

I kind of rank them:

G1
Beast Wars
RID

All the other series were pretty lame. Pacifist Prime and all that Poke’bot (mini-cons) crap was lame.

So Compared to what we have been dished out over the last few years, this new series was pretty good.
Beast Megatron
When it was first aired, I compared RiD to Beast Wars/Beast Machines and wrote it off as a pretty bad show. Last year, I rewatched the entire series, and I thought it was fantastic. It was genuinely funny, and had some good action scenes. It reminded me a lot of G1, too.

I'm fairly certain Animated will be second only to Beast Wars, though. We'll just have to wait and see.
Jett not Munky!
i'm very eager to see episode 2. i TIVO'd the "movie episode" the second time it aired and got to see the whole thing this time.

Blitzwing is freakin' AWESOME! i LOVE these Decepticons. Lugnut's hilarious. sounds like he's the typical thug-like character. big, bulky, strong, and dumb as a brick. blackarachnia is nice to see come back. knowing the BW writers are behind the show, i suspect she'll be almost the exact same as she was in BW, which will be nice.

Starscream's attack on the Autobots was simply awesome. i'm so glad he had a lot of screentime in this episode.

but i really want to see more of Blitzwing. He's got an alpha-Q homage. Alpha-Q was a favorite of mine in Energon because of his multiple personalities.

and i agree with Hobbes. there's definitely more to Sari than what they're saying
Aquarion
The Animated movie just finished airing on YTV. I managed to see all of it. It started out good but around halfway through, it turned into "Challenge of the Gobots". I'm not saying that the writing is bad, just that it's aimed at a younger audience than the average for cartoons like this. The target audience is definitely younger than 7 year olds.
Beast Megatron
I thought it appealed to an adult audience, actually. The writing was strong enough to hold my interest, anyway.
Aquarion
The whole "Autobots become public superheros instead of remaining in disguise until they have to help somebody" really killed it for me, not to mention giving Sari the Key so she can become an official member of the team instead of just a friend who hangs out with them. With the way Sari and Bumblebee met, I would have been perfectly fine with her hanging out with the Autobots since they saved her from a monster that was trashing her dad's factory. I guess they gave her the Key so the kiddies would have a role model who can actually help the Autobots instead of just being their friend.

I don't think the Key is going to be used as a plot device for a while. It's too convenient and too powerful, as it is effectively the allspark from the movie (see my posts above for what I feel has happened to the allspark of the show). It does give the decepticons a reason to go after her once they realize its power, though.

As for the autobots becoming public servants... What, did that plot nuance go right over your head? They were public servants for Cybertron. They went out and repaired bridges -- they weren't supposed to be heroes (save for Optimus), and suddenly they get a moment of being heroes after destroying that monster. Then they go right back to repairing stuff and being used for PR, only now with the label "hero" on them. What made Starscream a badass was that he realized this, and he took advantage of this. Slowly but surely they are going to earn the right to be called heroes, but it won't be an instant process. First they need to learn what it means to be a hero, which we saw glimpses of in the 3rd part of the special. They have the potential, they just need to reach for it.

This is what makes the show good for me. It also makes it a good kid's show -- learning to be a hero, and to do the right thing, is a hard process. Hence, it's hard to teach that to kids. This show's moral compass is pointed in a really good way for teaching kids values.
Aquarion
You may feel that way, Athenor. But to me, it feels like the title of "heros" was dropped into the Autobots' laps on a silver platter. Didn't you catch Prime's line after he fell from the blimp? "So this is what it feels like to be a hero". Sounds to me that they pretty much figured it out by the third "episode". Honestly, it's just plain boring if all humans instantly love the Autobots, save for a few bad apples that become super villains for no reasons more complex than "I'M EVIL, MWAHAHA!". Again, that doesn't mean that the writing is bad, just that the cartoon is aimed at a younger audience than other shows, like the new Batman cartoon for example.

I don't mean to sound condescending, but in traditional parlance "Hero = dead guy." It's what we do. You are considered a hero if you risk your life for the sake of others. Police officers, firefighters, military guys -- they all get the label of "hero" because they put themselves in danger, and they don't always come home from it. That's one of the things that has been missed, or at least transcended, in the "super"hero genre: The threat of death is diminished, and by a great margin. This is why I feel the allspark key bringing Prime to life was a one-time deal, as the death and resurrection of the hero in the hero's journey (as James Campbell would put it) is a necessary plot point.

It is a very painful, very lonely road to walk as a hero. Being on that pedestal means that when you fall, you fall harder.. and no one is there to give you support. Yes, the humans love the Autobots -- they are there, they are cool, and they are aliens. That feeling will wear off quickly. Eventually they will be taken for granted, or perhaps criticized for mistakes or collateral damage (see the movie The Incredibles). There will be people trying to exploit them. There will be people who hate them because of their own insecurities. And then, somewhere out there, there are the -real- threats. Starscream was just a taste. If they do this right, anytime the decepticons show up it will be a BIG deal, until such time as the autobots get outnumbered.

There are many people out there who never wish to be a hero. They fear that moment, the choice of having to sacrifice one's self for others. It's a hard road. And it's one Optimus is just starting down, one Ratchet has already seen and despises, one Prowl is too cocky to recognize, and one that bumblebee and Bulkhead will grow into eventually (although I suspect they'll play the roles of jesters -- this story is going to be primarily about Prime).
