If you're anything like us, you sometimes pop over to Nintendo Japan's Web page to see what you're missing. Those that have lately will tell you that the newly remodeled Virtual Console page is a slick, Flash-based affair. A click on any of the 6 buttons takes you to a list of VC games from that system. It's pretty nice, and it makes the US VC site look... blah.
Those with sharp eyes will notice two placeholders which may point to two more consoles to be supported by the Japanese VC in the future.
We're sure that one of them is the MSX, but what will the other be? Japan has a massive console history to draw on, so it could be anything. Could it be the Dreamcast? Should we get creative and say something like the WonderSwan? I'd die if it was the Sega Saturn. I'd laugh if it was the Apple Pippin.
What do you think the last one might be?

Options? 3DO, Jaguar, Atari XX00, Saturn, Master System, Dreamcast .......

Personally, I'd like to see some Dreamcast and Saturn love. But then the issue of space comes into play. I hope this is the case and an external HD is on the way. That'd be grand!

I see no point in having any GB titles as the gameplay on most was rather lame. GBA is also pointless IMO as they can still be played on the DS and I'd rather see some direct connect action for the DS. Not to mention screen size conversion and huge pixels....blech.

Why not an arcade emulation option? The PS2 does it on the Midway and Capcom collections.

Also, the 3D0 and Jag only had one or two games worth getting - the Saturn and Master System would be a better bet. I think you're right about the Dreamcast having too much content to download. I fear the half-a-gig of memory would be gone very soon unless they could utilize the SD slot or add a harddrive.

And why can't the Wii use the SD slot for channel storage and also read from the card? Is the port that slow?

Hell, they could make a whole seperate channel for that which would be a good idea IMO. Though with many companies bringing out greatest hits for their old arcade titles I woder if it would be a viable option. No need to squander valuable programming time on something that no ones going to DL if they can get it all on disc....so mayber not such a good idea.

Agreed and I have everything I wanted for the Jag; Aliens Vs. Predator. I'm still searching for Syndicate even though I have the PSone release. I just hate that the PSone had massive slowdown in it....it ruins the damn game.

The Saturn would be really nice and I would love that since I never got a chance to own one and I can think of at least three games I'd love to get my hands on for that sys. The Master Sys though... I'm kind of meh on that. 8-bit just isn't my thing.

I'm willing to bet the system can handle it and that they just don't have that operation built into the firmware right now. I have no idea though.

I don't have a Wii yet, so I'm not sure...but I thought with the VC games you can download, delete and redownload at will?
So, if it was going to be some Dreamcast love, wouldn't it be possible to do that way?

Anyhow, If it's either Saturn or Dreamcast, I'm going to have to try harder at getting a Wii now. I've been thinking about putting my older Sega systems into storage since I'm not playing them that much anymore, but if the Wii carries the games they can certainly go into storage.

The way it works is you go to the shop, purchase your titles and DL them. Then, they're on your system until you choose to get rid of them. You can redownload them if you need to but who wants to get rid of something just to add it again or make space by getting rid of all of your precious old items? That's just an unnecessary hassle in this current tech filled world. And it's been stated that a harddrive addition is being worked on so...

An HD for the Wii would own.

Personally, I don't think they'd do something as insane as the Dreamcast. The GC wasn't that much more power than the DC, and the Wii is essentially a GC with high clock speeds and more ram. It doesn't have the power to emulate a DC, and no one is going to be willing to do a full port job on these games.

So i'm guessing saturn and GB. the GB should have been there from the beginning, and the fact that nintendo didn't put it there is incredibly stupid.
sertile
Yeah, there seems to be this delusion that the DC was some previous generation like the N64 or the Playstation. It wasn't. It was contemporary with the GC/PS2/X-box, and the games were JUST AS BIG. Anyway, I'd personally like to see the Wii get some Master System love. Specifically, there were a lot of ace SMS games that were released in Europe and/or Brazil - like superior 8-bit home versions of a lot of Game Gear games - that never saw the light of day in the US OR Japan. Saturn had a lot of rad games too, but they might be too large on account of FMV's.

Atari 2600 would be good too, and a lot more practical space-wise. Most Atari games are 2-4 player anyway, and make GREAT multiplayer/party games. They'd have to be no more than $1 a piece, though.

The Atari 2600/5600/7200 idea would be great if the price is right. Maybe 5 games for 5 bucks... but it would suck if each 2600 game took up a channel space.

Hopefully there'll be some Virtual Boy love soon.

Right?

You plan on giving the world headaches?

I'd love a Saturn port. I miss me some Virtua Cop and Daytona USA.

Last I checked though, while not impossible, it's extremely difficult (and not worth it) to crack the Motorola chipset inside of the Saturn. This is why you don't see too many emulators out there. (though, last I checked was about two years ago.)

Still...it would be fantastic to have the ability to have both NiGHTS Into Dreams and NiGHTS Journey Of Dreams on the same system. Scratch that....it would be a must.

It's not cracking it that's the issue(That's only a problem is there's some form of encryption going on...), it's the many processors and how they all synchronize that is the issue. The damn thing has like seven or eight processors, counting the sound and video processors. It's insane for its' day, and still high today!

I'd personally want GBA system to come to VC.... why GBA? So I can get all the LoZ titles in one system... well not all, but yenno what I mean.

Well, one is the Sega Master System, according to Joystiq. Can I call 'em or what? I'm excited, because I never owned an SMS and I know there were a lot of ace games for the system. Too bad I can't find a Wii...

SMS games are cheap on ebay, I believe. So are SMS consoles, or gamegears(The gamegear is basically a somewhat enhanced SMS with a lower resolution. It even had an adapter for SMS games.).
Hellscream333
That's no fun thumbsdown.gif. I still have my gamegear and I never cared much for anything on the mastersystem. If it's not 16 bit or above I just can't get into it. Mario being the exception.

Have you ever played a Game Gear? I have one, and the screen is ass. I actually got a handheld thing at Target for $10 with some SMS/GG games on it and the video quality is 50x better, no joke.

I had one, but it was over ten years ago. I don't recall how the screen even looked.

Yeah, only 1/4 of the size with faint, almost monochromatic colors, horizontal scanlines, motion-blur, and ghosting galore! And yeah, I do plan on getting a Master System IRL as soon as I get around to it.
Agent TMan
I read that the Sega MS and Gamegear are coming. I want Alex Kid.
