There as an issue of the Transformers comic from the 80's in which Megatron was cast off a mountain (by Ratchet, I believe) and his memory was temporarily lost and he was locked in a gun form.
He was discovered by an aspiring thug, who realized this super gun slash robot followed his every command.
Only this wasn't no regular gun, it had the power to blow apart an entire military blockade.
And with this gun he became like a mob kingpin, until Megatron remembered who he was.
Yet he didn't kill the little man.

Interesting side-story to be unveiling during the course of events of the second movie, eh?
Whilst the Autobots deal with whatever threat Starscream presents, some would-be thug is terrorizing people with a super gun.

What super gun, you ask?

The one that some subconsious part of Megatron scanned before he was cast into the sea - the side-arm of one of the military men. And with the power of the Allspark absorbed, he was able to begin mass-shifting. The most powerful Decepticon, secretly disguised as a mere pistol.

Yeah.....it'll never happen.....

And we can be thankful for that.

The Thug with Superweapon is ripe with story potential...too ripe, IMO. Despite my Bay-like hatred of the gimmick that is Mass Shifting, a subplot about a criminal forming an empire from the fear induced by his superweapon that is really Megatron sounds cool, but it would either eat up screentime that could actually have Transformers doing things and dominate the film, or it would be truncated and sloppily pulled off to give enough time to the other Transformers. It's a fine plot for episodic storytelling, like a comic, but a movie needs to be more direct and succinct.

Besides, how does an amnesiac gun get off the bottom of the ocean floor and into the hands of a thug to begin with?

I dunno.

Anyway, I still love that script that was 'leaked' that is probably a load of C-R-A-P, the one with Hot Rod in it, but that's too bad cos that would have been phenomenal!

I don't care how they do it, I just want Megatron in the sequel somehow.

Bay's Megatron kicked ass. Easily one of the top two Megatrons (Beast Wars Megs gives him a run for his money).

Mass shifting should be kept out of the Movie franchise. Once again, the All Spark was allowed to mass shift because it was a super powerful mystic artifact that bestowed life to an entire race. Of course it's going to have abilities and powers that defy conventional physics. Regular Transformers though? No, they shouldn't mass shift.

Megatron will be revived somehow, not sure how, and he will then precede to acquire an Earth alt mode consistent with that of his robot mode's mass, and all will be well.
