I've had a similar problem when transforming my bumblebee- Making sure you pull the arms all the way out at the shoulders before you move the chest usually makes it transform more smoothly.
At least for me anyway.

It looks like the cogs got misaligned somehow.
It's possible that some application of Excessive Force might pop the whole thing back into place, but you run the risk of stripping the gears (unfortunately, the cogs are held in place by pins, so there isn't an easy way of resetting the gears by removing some screws to access the mechanism, like with Blackout).

Sammymus and trench,I tried Excessive Force but am too afraid to break it. Lesson learned: Never let your kids play with your most valuable toys!
Sammymus, how did you fix it when it happened to your bumblebee?

I fixed mine by making sure the arms were pulled all the way out at the shoulders. Sometimes It took a couple of tries folding the hood to make sure it was lined up correctly.
It seems to be a little touchy.

When he's in bot mode, look at the sides of the front of the car, where it attaches to the gear that moves the whole Chest/arm get up. See if the front piece is connected to the gear correctly. Mine has a stress fracture on that joint on the left side from when it popped off of the nub holding it in place. I had to carefully put it bad together and pray that it wouldn't break off. It's fine now, though.
Maybe something similar happened to you? Because of how the chest connects to the gears, I find it unlikely that the gears got misaligned. The chest would snap off first.
If the gears really are misaligned and it was because your children, they must have been pressing on the little tab that connects the chest to the gear (they must have used a jeweler's screwdriver or something small like that to press on it). Perhaps when trying to reconnect the chest to the gear?
