Full Version: Batman's secret identity
TFormers Community > General > The Comic Vault
Big Grim
I'm sure this has been discussed before, but here I go anyway. So pretty much all the original Titans know Nightwing is really Dick Grayson, and most the current Teen Titans know Robin is Tim Drake. Knowing at least one of these identities, and who their "father" is, it's not hard to figure out who Batman is behind the mask. Wouldn't Batman be kinda pissed that a buncha teenaged heroes know who he is. And of course he revealed his identity to the core League members back in the day, but it seems that just about every former and current league member knows who he is. Doesn't this kinda destroy the mystique of Batman?

OMG, a huge plot hole in comic books? Perish the thought!

Seriously, though, it's Blot like that that makes superhero comics look amateurish. That and the obvious fact that most of the time these writers don't work together just makes things so, so sloppy.
Big Grim
there are times when the writers do work together, like during the big crossover events like 52 and Countdown.

If Bill Gates put on a zorro out fit, He wouldn't fool anybody either.

Damn it man! You've spoiled Batman for me!

*cries*

Wait, I thought you were talking about how the Joker was his dad...

That's pretty much the only time though.... Then again, considering that the big crossover events are quickly becoming the only things DC and Marvel will put out...

Do his friends & colleagues know who he is? Sure. Does the general populace or anyone at Arkham know? Most likely not.

Besides, I'm more concerned with Green Arrow/Oliver Queen. I mean, come on, it's not like a third of Star City has that beard.

he took on the bat persona to become a legend and intimidate criminals. Not to fool his allies.

he did at first, up until JLA #50 Superman, Wonder Woman, J'onn, and Aquaman were the only League members and associates (outside of Gotham) that knew who Bats was under the mask

whoa, taking this one out of mothballs.
but I remember one of the earlier issues of Countdown to Final Crisis where they had the "origin of the villians" on the Riddler and they had it summed up in one panel of how he figured out Bat's identity:

(Whispering into Hush's ear) you see this picture in the word bubble

"Bruce Wayne's face" + "Money and utility belt" = "Batman symbol"
Haggisjin
I've always kind of ignored Batman being a member of JLA. It's never really sat well with me that a violent vigilante with a pathological need to avenge his parents murder by waging a one man war on crime would have join a knitting circle with a space clubhouse.
Hot Rod
while I generally feel the same way, I love the idea of Superman and Batman teaming up for many reasons.

First, that Batman is so good he holds his own with the most powerful being on earth.
Second, the contrast between them is so awesome and you can tell that while sometimes they're best friends, other times they just want to punch each other in the nuts.
Also, I think it's awesome that Batman is the only person Clark basically trusts to put him out of comission if he ever gets out of control.
Haggisjin
Oh yeah, the Batman/Superman combo has one of the most interesting team ups with the most complex potential. They're as much each other's opposites as they are their allies.
Bestimus Mucho
Well batman in the JLA was always odd, but my argument for it is the fact that Batman is the worlds greatest detective, and Along with Lex Luthor and Mister Terrific he's supposed to be one of the three smartest humans in the DC universe.
G.A.S.H.
Personally I think of him more as an honourary member, he provides leads to things that he can't deal with, etc...

also, I was reading an Issue of JLA where The flash tells Big Barda that Batman always has a plan, and is always thinking 3 steps ahead of everyone else, which is the chief reason he is on the team. Then Batman goes about revealing wtf is going on, but just as he's about to say how to solve it he disapears from existence because probabilty changed and Thomas and Martha Wayne were never killed.

*Cough* Brother Eye *cough*

Paranoia's a good answer for always having a contingency plan. I'm kind of anti-bat because my brother idolizes him so much. Paranoid, trying to find the bad things about something before what's good in it. Read "GREEN LANTERN REBIRTH" and you'll understand my reason.
