Full Version: Price for MIMB G1 Megatron

Hi! Just found this auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...rksid=p3907.m29

The item makes me drool, cause it's a MB in such a beautiful condition, but the price is astronomical to me. Do you reckon it's a right price given the condition of the item? It's not MISB anymore...

Yes, I collect MB boxes so this one would be perfect. I have one where the toy is brand new but this one pwns mine for the packaging...
Hmmm... In the UK they got a few MBs but they prefer US/UK boxes.

Edit: OK, I've made an offer. Couldn't resist...

A Chinese guy has bought it for 750... I hope it's not to make bootleg MB Megs. rodimusgrinstatic.gif

I wanted it too, but that was way too expensive. I still need the Canadian box and this MB European box. Was there another European/UK boxed edition? There's still the GiG U.N.C.L.E. up from another seller for $700, and I want it, but not for that much.
Abaddon
thats not a bad price for it. its going to be hard to find another one in such great shape as this one.

Technically, the US Hasbro box was released in the UK.

No need to twist the knife smiletf.gif

The UK edition is the same as the US one. But there are three mainland European versions: MB, MB/Hasbro (more purple, Hasbro sticker on a MB logo) in '85, and Hasbro '86. That's also the case for Prime and the seekers.

Thanks, I knew about the one MB, but wasn't familiar with the other. Is the '86 any different box-wise?
autobotmaintenance
The only differences from the MB/Hasbro I can remember is the copyright, which is Hasbro '86 and not Milton Bradley '85, and the Hasbro logo which is printed on the '86 one whereas it is stuck over the MB logo for the MB/Hasbro. But both are the same purple whereas the first MB Decepticon boxes are more mauve. A picture showing the MB and MB/Hasbro:

Box is not top notch, but contents are.
ReverendNash
Very nice. If you wind up with any extra MB boxes, I may be interested in acquiring one for my box o Megatrons. Of course, I have a few extra Megs to get rid of right now first.

Ebay only banned listings for G1 Megs without that orange cap in the barrel.

Well then I hope EBay doesn't cut this auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...4.cWAT.m240.lVI

The actual item looks great. As far as applied stickers Megatron's, this does seem to be the best I have seen on EBay (*disclaimer. I promise this is not my auction!)

Here are two questions for the more seasoned collectors:
What do you think is an actual fair price for this auction (G1 Megatron, MIB w great stickers)?
What if there was a MIB G1 Megatron with unapplied stickers, how much higher would that figure go?
ReverendNash
It really depends on what it's worth to you to have. Then you have to ask yourself if it matters or not that this is a later release w/rubsign, versus a 1st release pre-rub version. Not only is there the addition of the rubsign, but the instruction sheet was changed to reflect this as well. I'm also picky enough to point out that the styrofoam insert on that one is broken...there should be a small part that covers the clip that hold the scope on. I do admit though that the box on that one, other than the flap crease, is in really nice looking shape based off of their pictures. I'm more of a unused condition sort of person, unapplied stickers and weapons still on sprues, and have paid as much as $300 for toys in that condition. I have been lucky enough to never have to pay that for a TF G1 Megatron, but I can be very patient sometimes, and like to wait for a deal to show up somewhere.

Wow, that's a real beauty. I predict it goes for a minimum $700. Same with the Prime that the guy has.

That auction really isn't worth more than $200-250 max. Applied stickers, no used sheet, broken styrofoam, shall I continue?

Yes, continue all you want, Mr. know-it-all, genius guy.

Pieces in that condition have been going for way more than they're worth since last fall. And unused G1 Primes are routinely getting significantly more than $300. $700 may be high for that Megs, but it'll approach $500.

And incidentally, I sold a G1 Megs in worse condition than that for $620. Never underestimate Ebay rookies who get in bidding wars.
ReverendNash
I guess you can never underestimate the power of the uneducated buyer. As a G1 Megatron collector primarily, I don't see any value in that one beyond what I stated, if someone out there doesn't know any better, good for the seller, it may just be time to throw that one I had on the end cap up on eBay and see what someone else thinks it's worth.

Guess I got really lucky a few months back when I grabbed my unused G1 Japanese #01 Convoy for $300 shipped from Asia via EMS. And same goes for Megs, I've never paid more than $300 for any of my G1 or Pre-TF Megatrons.
