They say that no more than 7 transformers will be in each faction for the live-action movie due in 2006. Obviously, Optimus Prime and Megatron will star in the film. Now as for the rest, that's difficult to predict.

Optimus is supposedly going to be an 18-wheeler which should prove interesting. I hope it isn't like Energon Omega Supreme where the front has large wheels and the rear has tiny wheels. That would suck. Anyway, I hope Megatron transforms into a tank but one that can crush normal sized tanks.

Which Autobots and Decepticons do you guys think will make it into the cast?

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that the alt modes in the movie will be based on real-world vehicles. Therefore, you won't have to worry about "disproportioned" semi-truck wheels; however, a "mega-sized" tank is highly unlikely.

If the major players are all from the original G1 series, I'll venture to guess:

WHAT! I dont believe it. 7 on a side! What is this, Armada or something. This makes my hopes go right down the drain. Murphys ideas of "realistic" are going to ruin the movie. I can predict that for sure.

calm down, they cant get into each of the characters if they put all of them in the first movie, like with xmen, they start with a small group, once they are established, start addin like crazy in the other movies

provided of course they make more than one, otherwise, hell, throw 'em all in the movie, we really dont need details on most of them

That doesn't mean that they can't have more characters as extras like they did on X-Men. I think 7 is a good number of characters. If you really think about it, in the first transformers movie there weren't that many main stars. The rest were supporting cast. I'd say Hotrod, Kup, Ultramagnus, Arcee, Springer, Daniel, Blurr and the Dinobots all count as one charater to me. for the dark side there was Basically more or less just Galvatron, Unicron and to a lesser extent Megatron, Starscream. Everyone else were basically tools to keep the action going and had no real lines.

What they're trying to do with this movie is actually make you care about these characters in a real life setting. They also want more than just fans to have a reason to see the movie too. If we're the only ones that know what's going on on the screen than what fun will that be for everyone else?

Exactly, and that's what they've been doing with the X-Men and Spider-Man movies. And look how successful they've been. I'm a huge X-Men and Spider-Man fan, I read all the comics, and I really enjoyed those movies. What's even better is that friends of mine who know next to nothing about these characters were also able to enjoy the movies. I'm hoping the same can be said for the Transformers movie when it comes out.

and let's not forget that Beast Wars had a cast of more or less 7 characters on each side, and look how good that series was.

Just keep in mind, he's looking for a core of 7 per side (whether that is including or excluding Op & Megs or not is another matter of speculation). But also note he's mentioned having Hot Shot (Rod) as the coolest damn sports car available, and the mention of HasTak actively pursuing the VW license, which if they get will automatically give us Bumblebee. So that's at least 2 mentioned so far for the Autobots. As far as the Decepts, he's mentioned Soundwave is a possibility if they can find a practical and believable way to put him in the movie, and of course you can't have G1 evil without Starscream. Now, with the advent of Alternators/Binaltech, we could very well see Smokescreen, Sideswipe, Silverstreak, Hound, Tracks, Jazz/Meister, & Grimlock, as they've already been licensed as real-life vehicles. Speculation at this point I would think would lean more towards if they're in alternators/binaltech, they'll likely be in the movie.

Personally though, I don't wanna see Hot Rod in the first movie, at least not as a modern vehicle, the cybertronian hot rod mode is just too cool as it is. The only possibility I could see is if they made him a tricked-out & hot-rodded C6 Corvette, as the body shape & style is the closest of any other vehicles out there, just needs chrome sidepipes, a blown engine sticking out of the hood, and a huge yellow spoiler/wing

Also up for speculation, we almost have to see them in their Cybertronian modes first before they come to Earth and get reformatted, so this might be the way we get to see the WWI models used (and get figures of the WWI modes in the process)

But alas, I shouldn't speculate too much, otherwise I'll have such high hopes that I'll ruin the movie for myself before it's even started filming... lol

I forgot to mention that I would like for Smokescreen, Jazz and Hound to be the Alternators version. Every time I look at Smokescreen's feet I can fully visualize him stomping around and the hydrolics in his toe and heels shifting with his weight.

Regarding SoundWave's inclusion in the movie:

Some one in the Kitbash thread posted links to his recolored and remodeled SOUNDWAVE based off of the Armada Redalert Figure. Now i really disliked the Red alert figure but the Sound Wave incarnation was Brilliant!

So here is my thought (and all kudos and credit back to the painter --sorry dont know your name) Why not make SW a NEWS VAN?!?!? He is now a large and imposing vehicle that incorporates all of the espionage concepts of SoundWave's design. Im not quite sure how to incorporate the tapes into this except to say perhaps that Laserbeak could be the Satalite dish "perched" on top and, ok this is just a brainstorm, Dont blast me here, how cool would it be to have Rumble and Frenzy as "pretender-esqe characters....?

im thinking the drivers/news personel but think in terms of:
Oceans 11 twin-Brothers meets Wolverine meets Terminator -
Just imagine Rumbles fists swelling and ripping the flesh and pounding into a door or the ground! And Frenzy walking into a crowd and just WAILING causing chaos and shatering windows. and then of course afterwards both of them having to be either redone or in their flesh disguises (ok now im thinking Death becomes her)

ok so i am not a HUGE fan of the pretenders line but as i mentioned before i want SW and the boys in the movie (ps - SW could still store Laserbeak and ravage? and or ratbat in side him)

OK, I've been thinking about this since I began the post. Here's my theory:

AUTOBOTS
Optimus Prime (most likely his trailer will reinforce as a repair station or command center; he will combine with his trailer to form a bigger robot)

Jazz (he's Jazz; end of story)

Bumblebee (without him, the movie will suck; most fans adore him)

Hot Rod (he's a vital character; maybe in the sequel, he can lead the Autobots if Prime dies)

Arcee (there's gotta be a female bot or else female audiences won't be interested and the theaters will be filled with only guys; that is excluding female TF fans with all respect; Transformers should not only be a guy thing)

DECEPTICONS
Megatron (most likely he will transform into a tank and yes a realistic one; however, he can look futuristic)

Starscream (he's Starscream; end of story)

Thundercrapper (since he is a repaint of Starscream, designing him
and Skywarp won't be a burden for the special effects team)

Soundwave (what the hek will he transform to? Obviously not a tape recorder. I'm sorry guys and gals but Murphy said that a cassete player isn't possible. Why? Well because it's virtually obsolete in our world unless they the movie is set in the 80s which I doubt, size is too small, and like Murphy said, we won't be seeing giant robots shrinking in size when they transform into their alternate modes; it's not realistic)

Skywarp (again, he's a repaint of Starscream and thus is easy to create)

Devastator (there's gotta be at least one combiner or else the movie will suck; construction vehicles are realistic and thus we can expect Devastator to make an appearance. Besides, he is a very powerful transformer and can intensify action scenes)

When the production team says the movie will have realistic vehicles based in reality, that kinda rules out any futuristic ANYTHING.

As for characters (core characters with actual speaking parts), look to X-Men as a model. Some characters had to be re-vamped (Jean Grey became Dr. Jean Grey) so that every character would be different and each would have their specific role or place on the team. Wolvie was the rebel berserker, Cyke was the square/leader (like Leonardo from TMNT), Jean Grey was the brains, Storm was ... um... Halle Berry with special effects (and modestly dressed, thank goodness).

A well rounded team has:
A leader (Optimus)
A brawler (Ironhide?)
A future plush figure the audience is intented to relate to (Bumblebee)
A scientist -think 'The Professor' from Gilligan's Island- (Rachet)
A cool guy (Jazz)

and a few supporting characters... mind you that only 2 or 3 characters total will be major lead characters, so that's Op's, Megs, and maybe 1 or 2 others. More than that and it turns into "Batman & Robin" with heroes and villians for every day of the week.

Theirs no pleasing the entire transformers fan base. you gotta look at fx cost when talking who they are gonna put in. you know they gonna put bumbleebee in it.

First and foremost: ***ROBOTS*** in disguise. Why make a female robot or bother making a robot with boobs?

That's one thing that NO ONE has ever answered: Why the TF's must look so humanoid...

Why not a basic TF that transforms into an 8-legged robot with no discernable head?

And what do they have to disguise themselves for? I mean, the original Ark stated they disguised to look like the "nativeS" of the planet, mistakenly discerned as the metal cars and planes around town.

That's another thing that bothers me: the recent Micromaster series; everyone is named in English after some sort of car-related incident, and everyone transforms into earth-based cars; and they've NEVER BEEN TO EARTH (as far as I know)!

yeah the micromasters series with them as earth vechiles is troubling. But still gonna get it and read it. anyways why go over what bot is gonna be in the film. They could throw in someone like ratchet or jetfire/skyfire.

*I don't think they would put fan fav characters like Jazz or Bumblebee in the movie right away. I mean c'mon .... I know I ain't the only one who wanted Gambit in X1 n X2. I know there won't be Venom on the next Spider-man movie. I'd like to see the combiners in the sequel (you know there will be a sequel).

*Maybe Unicron might make a guess appearance at the end. Look at Mortal Kombat, Shao Kahn... was anybody expecting to see him make an appearance at the end.

*It would be good to have made for movie originals in it.

*I'd like to see something new like have Starscream combine with Thundercracker.

When they make the movie I just hope they keep Optimus Prime the same as he looks in his G1 charachter and not do any changes to him. Prime is an iconic god in my eyes and to make any changes to him would be a huge let down. Now as for whos in the movie heres my picks:

i noticed people putting side swipe without sunstreaker one without the other wouldnt really work as they are the only 2 robots that still have family. the likelyhood is prime will look like G1 even if you watch the first ep from armada it is the definative optimus. wheel jack will definatly be in it as he is the brains , brawn his name says it all and jazz will be in it for some comic releif. i hope they put all the ark based tf in the movie even if they only focus on 7 each side, just to make it seem like an army, bw only had small sides because the axalon was an explorer ship primearilly but it had loads of characters in stasis, 7 is not an army!

ok, ok, ok... you guys need to remember a few things.

#1: There are going to be a slew of new toy designs for this movie. This is basically a $100 million dollar commercial for Hasbro and they aren't going to forget that.

#2: The Core characters will have to be somewhat recognizable and will only be able to have names that Hasbro currently has a liscense to... so there will probably be no Jazz or Hot Rod (Autobot Jazz and Rodimus Major anyone?)

#3: I doubt that they well let Rumble, Lazerbeak, or Ravage count as a core character because A; they are too small to battle with the autobots puting the decepticons at a serious disadvantage and B; they are comonents of SOundwave

you say that but hasbro doesnt have the liscence for ratchet (universe) and hound is autobot hound too in alternators

well. so far it looks like we may be getting some changes to alt modes for some decepticons. i for one am not against this.
an idea i had was to somehow explain why teletran revives both decepticons and autobots. i mean, wouldn't it have recognised the autobots enemies??? or did the battle before the crash muck up the wiring??
anyhow, imagine if the droid that went looking for the alt modes found a secret base of some sort with stealth tanks, etc. that could give awesome alt modes for the decepticons as well as a sort of futuristic look???

Well how bout they fuse two things into one? In my opinion that seems like the only possible way to get anything futuristic out of todays vehicles/objects.

I can't wait for the movie to begin production. I hope that the new alt modes look awesome and even if they dont look exactly the same as the comics and G1 toon. I would love to see Grimlock in the movie but it probably won't happen. Ultra Magnus would be cool too.

Here are my thoughts - modified from an earlier post, since the producers are looking at choosing from all of the Transformers mythos except Beasts. Overall, I think the Autobots will be everyday cars and trucks (since the producers want to licence actual vehicles, like the BT/Alts), while the Decepticons will be military vehicles.

To choose the Autobots, I'm sure there will be an ensemble of distinct character types - we just have to choose which Autobot best fits the role.

Prime will of course be the Autobot leader, he will be a COE tractor that will combine with his trailer for a "super mode."

Murphy has specifically mentioned Bumblebee and Hot Shot (Rod?).

Therefore, Bumblebee will be the little "cute" Autobot that relates to humans. (alt mode: little yellow car)

The inclusion of Hot Shot/Rod shows they're obviously thinking of a "young, hotheaded rookie" type of character (alt mode: red sportscar, which probably eliminates Sideswipe).

Now the other Autobots:
The loyal, stalwart second in command: Prowl (alt mode: blue sedan)

An engineer/scientist (who can repair damaged Autobots while at the same time think of the deus ex machina used to end the film): Wheeljack (alt mode: white sports car)

The grizzled veteran warrior: even though this was Ironhide in the G1 'toon, I think they'll use Hound for this character. (alt mode: green Jeep)

The "burly, toughguy" robot (alt mode: big pickup or SUV): either Brawn or Ironhide - maybe even Grimlock.

For the Decepticons - obviously we'll have Megs and Starscream, the others are more difficult. I don't think the individual personalities are quite as important as with the Autobots, as they'll likely have less screentime.

Keeping with my military vehicle idea: Megatron will be a tank and Starscream an F-15/F-22 fighter.

The seeker brothers will almost surely be used, but Thundercracker and Skywarp will have alt modes that are different from Starscream. Skywarp (since he's primarily black) would be ideal as an F-117 Stealth fighter while Thundercracker could be an F-16 (just like the USAF Thunderbird team).

Soundwave - who's alt mode will be a tracked military vehicle with satellite dishes/acoustic weapons, and instead of "cassettes" I see small unmanned vechicles such as the Predator UAV (something that might be associated with a "military communications vechicle") used as an alt-mode for Laserbeak.

For the other two: Armada Cyclonus as a military assault helicopter and Armada Demolisher as a tracked anti-aircraft gun.

we may well see all the characters in it cos ifd you notice he says "CORE" the others may just have oneliners and be there in the background

in other words your tellin me/us that hasbro is so retarded that they can't make up their own names that havent been used in other Transformer shows.
Rumble, Lazerbeak, and or Ravage might be on there but not as core characters because there is this thing called "advantage".

actually...for the decepticons, since Megs will be a tank, keep the military theme and have them be the combaticons. Keep starscream as the jet. For the climatic battle, they combine to bruiticus and have him tear things up while prime and megs go at it

Has Anyone else seen I, Robot. Now I can't wait for Transformers to come out. Also the robots in that movie reminded me of Microman figures. With there silver parts and transparent parts.

I can't wait to TF the movie comes, just hope they do the characters justice

i think they should leave the combiner gestalts out till the next movie, omega supreme and the constructicons could be the section before the credits and after that forward the present day and the decepticons plans to build the stunticons.

best think of the first movie first. military vehicles for the decepticons is a good idea as it represents their war like beliefs, when the movie is made the makers should look at who the faveroute characters were and are .
