You have to admit, it was an accurate title....And yes, Goku's asian/asian looking, as are almost every human looking person in the series. in the first series, he was mistaken for a human for the full length of it.So, yeah, this is basically a repeat of all those Charlie Chan movies back in the '30s... Wonder if it'll piss off any people or not... A lot of japanese americans got pissed off when a chinese woman played a japanese in Memoirs of a Geisha, IIRC.

Well, here's the thing: It's being written and directed by the Final Destination movies. Those sucked incredibly hard.

If it was being directed by the Kung Fu Hustle director, then I'd have some hope for it as it'd probably be a lot like the original series, which was funny at hell at times.

Plus, you know, the whole not even bothering to cast a guy in the right racial group thing. That's always pissed me off.

Dude, seriously. It's an American movie. They're allowed to do that. I mean, of all the dumb things to get upset about.

I mean, how could you tell what any of the guys' ethnicities in DB were anyway? They all looked exactly the same.

Except for the black guys.

Because it took place in japan for the most part, plus the japanese names.

almost all of the time when a character is not japanese in anime/manga, they don't give him a japanese name. I've watched probably dozens of anime, and I can't think of a single case where that wasn't done.

The reason they all looked the same is becasue the artist sucked at faces. >.> Still does.

lol, fanboys
I.S.T.
I'm not really a fanboy for DBZ, haven't been for years.

I'd be surprised if it didn't take place in japan though... Buit then again, DBZ itself wasn't nearly as tied to japan as DB was.

Actually, the absolute worst way to do the movie is to do a faithful adaptation. I'd estimate the movie would be four hours long in that case, 2 hours and 30 minutes worth of them charging up while making weird noises.
Lord Madhammer
So all right then.

Seriously there's no way it will take place in Japan. It only took place in Japan in the anime because it was... dun dun dunnn a Japanese cartoon.

You'd be surprised at how many that take place on earth take place in like... the US or some other place. It's actually quite common. >.>

and for the record.... Yes, I like DBZ, but for the most part I hate the animated version, as it introduced the art of milking into anime. In only two episodes is it better: When Goku first goes Super Sayian(The manga version does not capture the emotion of the moment) and when Gohan first turns SS2(Same reason as the first.).

Easy. They could have the whole movie where they stand around in the air taunting each other and powering up, then they have to make a sequel that has the fight in it.

1 Set on another alternate universe earth.
2 ALL the charachtors were named after food or plants(minor exceptions). None had traditional names.

You are complining that the Final Destination team will get their hands on it? WTF they were fantastic and they showed that this movie will have unique none-predictable deaths.

It's not the language, it's the people who made the anime in the first place. The manga version stretched stuff out too, but unlike the anime, it didn't milk it. The manga just showed most every punch, and given that it was only 10-16 pages a week, less was shown overall. an average anime episode can adapt three to five manga chapters. DBZ generally only did two.

In the end though, it's still just your average semi-brain dead action story.

I disagree with the notion that it won't resemble the cartoon much, given how insanely popular the cartoon was... of course, that was years ago. It mostly just coasts now.

It was marketed toward 9 and up. The original version was considered 14 and up, so basically you have DBZ fans in nearly every age group.

This is, of course, only counting the US. In japan it was so Powerglideing huge it's not funny.

I only ended up watching the ENTIRE series from Dragonball----->DBZ----->DBGT cause a mate liked it, I have also seen all the episodes in Japanese thanks to him. If you saw one English ep and the same ep in Japanese, the stories were so different. Its kind of like Star-Wars. Take it with its original dialogue and its a mix of Spagghetii Western and Sci-Fi, record Shakespere over it and you could have Richard III and McBeth. There are also vital plot points in the movies that are not explained in the series. There are many MANY charachtors who go from HATING Goku to suddenly "Oh hi how are you smiletf.gif " and many "How do we do this" to next 2 eps "Oh we need to put X into X".

For me there is every hope for this movie. For those who are saying "Oh but isnt he too young/thin" Well Goku was thin verry thin till he started to charge up, AAAARGHHHH, Dwane Johnson thickness, AAAARGHH, Brock Lesnar, AAAAARGHHH, The Incredible Hulk sized, FULL MOON, Bigger than any of the skyscrapers of his day Big enough to use King Kong as a toy.

Pretty much hates DBZ.

But that's more or less my attitude towards most anime during the Pokemon/Sailor Moon years that was televised.

A LAM could be fun especially with Stephan Chow attached. His movies are usually fun.

Waiting to see the Wachowski's take one Speed Racer next year.

Spirits Within.

My hugest problem if any with it was it really wasn't a FF movie. It was a cool scifi actioneer or what have you but not Final Fantasy. I think it could have done a lot better if it just went by The Spirits Within. JMO.

Advent Children I have yet to even bother with.

I like Spirits Within as just Spirits Within, there is nothing Final Fantasy about it.
I liked Advent Children, because it was what I expected - FF7: THE EPILOGUE and is total fanwank to the extreme.

As for the Dragonball movie. I don't really care, there were only certain choice parts of the Dragonball Z cartoon I liked, but I am a fan of the collected trades of the manga. I hope the movie is entertaining, fun, and carries at least parts of the DB story over. If it does that, I'll probably enjoy it to some degree.

the pics i googled of rossum would make me follow her too drool.gif .... yea chow has played so many serious roles, him letting loose and being dirty will be a site to see
Not only that but he plays so many SIMILAR roles, you see him in a film and its "Oh there's the intelligent martial artist" or "Oh there's the bad guy who acts sinister"... Who knows he could be an amazing comedian..
