so ive been playing my 360 alot to day and ive noticed its getting quite hot and hearing about the red rings of death have me warried. so ive been thinking are those cooling units worth the money they just seem to plug into the back on the 360 and are pritty much 3 fans like you would find in your PC could they do the job?

my mate says their actually worse since they run off the 360 itself, adding to the work the machine has to do in the first place and kinda adding to the problem its trying to fix

How insane are you?
Water Cooled X360Vegetable Oil Cooling System (made for PCs, but could work for Xbox I suppose)

You have to be careful, some of those cooling fans actually hurt the 360 more than it helps. I'd say its best to just keep the 360 as is, in the horizontal position and in an open space with plenty of room on the backside.

i cant help but fell that water cooled things are just too risky given how water and electric stuff dont mix well

yeah mines on my tabel with about 9 inches between it and my TV. the thing is Forza 2 seems to really drive up the heat compared to other games (and looking at thier site im not the only one)

The vegetable oil actually doesn't conduct electricity. There was an English version of that mod where the computer ran cooler than most high-end cooling fans AND it was completely silent.

Don't waist your time the whole Xbox 360 dying is because of a flaw from MS, If it dies take heart there wasn't anything you really could do about it.

Yup, but you also don't have to worry, since Microsoft also extended the warranty on all X360s.

Don't buy the cooling units that feed off the system's own power supply they burn out.
I had one on a first generation 360 and it killed it. or really partially killed it.

I have one of the intercoolers that they sell at gamestop, and I have never had a problem with my 360 overheating. I do have a problem with the fan itself since it is so freaking loud. I have been able to drown it out after a while or just turn up the volume but its really annoying. If you can get by without one, then I suggest that is what you do.
I also am a big fan of Forza2 and play it for hours on end, so I will post any problems that I might have.

I recently bought a 360 and decided to buy a cooler that works through the USB port. Two pluses; it has a built in neon green light and the fan is fairly quiet.

Sadly for Microsoft, I'm not willing to buy a 360 till the ring of death is just an unpleasant chapter in gaming history. I mean if I flopped out the cash for one and then had to send it off for a repair and get a different refurbished unit! ooh man I'd be pissed.
This has got to be hurting their sales.
