Full Version: Jin's Master Shockwave and working-watch Meantime!

Jin Saotome
This week I have two new customs finished. First is a personal favorite of mine going way, way back to pay homage to the very first Transformer custom I made... Shockwave! Big thanks to David Willis and TFmaster for jump-starting me into TF customizing. The story goes, Willis liked his Energon Shockblast and I couldn't stand the giant arm. Wanting to prove it could be better, I created the old Shockwave with that Microman gun arm. TFmaster saw it and liked it so much he asked if I'd post on Transtopia.com, thus introducing me to my first TF message boards!

Ok, first Shockwave. He's complex, lots of magnets, modular weaponry, and a light-up system that can be plugged in to different weapons in different modes. He turns into a Space Cannon mounted on a tripod. You could still alter him into a gun-mode but since I'm selling him on EBay I don't want to show pics of that or they'll make me stick a gaudy orange plug on the end, bleh. If you want to know where the weapons came from and see all his many weapon-arms, please click his link! There's a lot of images there and show the different light-up effects too.

Next is Meantime! I turned him into a real watch and gave him a new paint job. It's not that hard and you can read all about how I did it by clicking his link.

Yay, the first working Meantime I've seen! Now if I could just find one in stores... rumblecry.gif

Saw this on your site earlier! Damn amazing as usual!

Insanely awesome.

Jin can you take pictures of the stages next time? Some peeps need images to understand HOW to do things.

Good work though.. Any tips for making ShockRRz stay upright under the weight of his weapons?
STPrime
primes arms fit him very nicely.

Meantime looks great - I love the fact that he's wearing a watch in robot mode. I may seriously consider trying that myself sometime... Any thought to giving him weapons of some kind?

I was going to buy a meantime in Japan at Toys R Us today and then I realized that it really SHOULD have had some basic LCD watch inside it.

The whole real-gear line is a bit of a failure for me, as even knock-off toys in dollar stores, stores in Asia and outdoor markets manage to cram all manner of cheap LCD "game and watch" style games or even cheap "5 sounds in one" sound boxes in anything from toys to sweets/candy these days.

Have you thought, heaven forbid, about making another Meantime out of a limited edition Transformers Gshock or one of the kids LCD watches from Japan?
deliciouspeter
shockwave is cool, but does he come with a trailer for all his gear?
Beef
That Shockwave is amazing, Jin. Quite why Hasbro haven't givien him more love (or at least a classics Megatron retool) I don't know.
roboraptor
Fine work there Jin. Shocks is one of my all time favs.

You love him, you really really love him! *dances around!* Thanks for the compliments everyone, glad these two turned out to meet your expectations!

Sure, I'll make a tutorial for Meantime when I find another, this was just attempt #1.

The majority of the weapons I used came from the MARS figure set and are light, 2-piece molded weapons. Good strong rare-earth Magnets keep the weapons tight on the figure and he doesn't have any weight issues.

Hmmm, there's an idea, he does have holes in his hands to hold something. What kind of weapon could he use that could attach to a watch? Some sort of antenna maybe?

Haven't seen those watches yet but I can give it a try! Links?

Heheh... I could mod the underside of the tripod to hold all the gear, then attach it to his back. I just love removable parts for some reason that 'disappear' into your pocket.

Noo I meant for the hip joint where the upperbody/reactor chamber folds down for the tank. My one has the Emo wave syndrome/

Hmmm, add some superglue to it maybe? I used the green shockblast from the Powerlinx series (sixshot I think they called him?) and it was tight enough to support the cannon. They altered the claw-arm on this mold so they might of changed the bottom part as well. I didn't have my old custom to compare it too but the arm is definatly new where it attaches to the shield.

After looking more closely at my own Meantime, I see he does indeed have a watch molded into his wrist - it's just not painted or as visible as after Jin painted it. Nice work at that scale. I had a small brainstorm of my own... I want to see a Meantime painted brown with blue accents, with a yellow-rimmed analog clock face attached (I imagine keeping an analog watch running is significantly harder than a digital one... what do you do with the batteries, anyway? Oh yeah, brainstorm), and painted to resemble Japanese Beast Wars Neo character Heinred (various spellings). I've already seen the Freestyle custom from Vector Prime, which looks great... I'm working on coloring a picture of my own concept and will post it when done.

These look amazing eektf.gif

Not so much into the RG figures, but meantime suddenly looks interesting.

That original Shockwave of yours has always been a favorite of mine and something I wanted to try myself someday. Good to see you've managed to improve on it.

Great work man, keep it up and keep surprising us thumbsup1.gif thumbsup1.gif

The Gshock watches were/are limited to 1,000 watches per type. There is an Optimus Prime version and a Megatron one. Have a look at the "japanese users" section here at TFans for a few posts by my good self showing the watches.

wow that watch so cool ! thumbsup1.gif

Hmm....if I were to guess, it took you about 4 minutes and 23 seconds to shoot Meantime's gallery, did it not?

Such an amazing figure, can't believe that I saw some people bashing it over at TFW2005.

Reading the quotes there, it seemed more like jealousy from other customizers.

"a shame other's customs that are at least as good as that don't get even a fraction of that kind of money when they get sold."
payton34
Damn, I love the latest accessory added:

Any of you remember waaaaay back in the Marvel Transformers series, issues 4 and 5 where Shockwave destroys the Autobots (save for Ratchet) and he keeps Prime's head in some type of contraption?

This looks like a diorama waiting to happen, lol.
DarkNarcoleptic
Yeah...it was all suspended with with wires and sh*t.

Then he gave some kid the Matrix telepathically.
Ultimate mecha sonic
i must have him

Pretty much, heh. Took some time to transform him, pose him, focus the camera, etc.

I must of missed that drama or it was deleted/edited. They're usually really cool at TFW2005

Yes, I know. I was more referring to the fact that, because you have a working watch on Meantime, you can see the exact time of when you took a picture on his chest.
Blitz
the watch is something im going to have to try
Exokute
I dont know what is better the customs or the pics....the detail in you images is amazing!!!
