I am finally finished my first customs! Almost!

I need some help attatching balljoints.

Supposing you have an Alt Prime head that needs to go on the body of another Alt, but the ball joint is too big. What do you do?

Then what is the ball joint is soo small, then what do yo do?

Now this goes for ALL ball joints, not just heads.

If you can answer, I will be able to post my finished customs with the heads!!!

I just use stickytack to hold the head on if the joint is too loose, since I only use my TFs for display. If the joint is too big, follow the Alt Trailbreaker guide on reprolabels.com

It details how to cut off the pegs and swap them. I guess you could do that for both situations.

Im sure one of the sticky threads at the top of the customs forums addresses this. I remember a thread that showed how to change a head with a different ball joint. Very tricky but well worth it.

Can someone just TELL me instead of giving me cryptic answers??

Nevermind.

How do I do it, say, if I am making my own head ou of apoxy sculpt??

well, i do not have any masterpiece or alt or binaltech, so since i do not know the nature of the plastic involved in these joints I do not know exactly what products you should use for doing this. on the other hand if this is a matter of bigger ball joint sockets you should find a material strong good enough to make a layer within the socket so you may effectively attach the ball (i.e epoxy??) now if the socket is too small, use your abilities and your dremmel tool (if you have one) to grind the ball a little bit at a time to make it fit in the socket.

not sure if this is what you were talking about, anyway hope it helps!

If the head's hole is too big for the new neck, use the ball joint from the old neck.

If the heads hole is too small for the new neck, see if you can make either the ball joint smaller or the hole in the head bigger. If not, use the joint from the old neck.

as for scratch building a head.

If you dont have the sort of ingenuity and imagination to figure out how to transfer a head on your own, dont try scratch building a head quite yet.

What syp meant by his response is that it is very difficult to make convincing "mechanical" parts out of soft sculpting media. Even people with tons of experience still make heads that look can like candy and horribly out of place on factory parts. You need a set of good sculpting tools and a brainful of skill to make it look like crap. Also these sculpting materials aren't meant to take the stress of ball joints or other bits, so you're better off looking for an existing head and fudging how it attaches. You can build up small joints with paint if it's close. It won't be perfect.

Also to switch the ball joints, you need to remove the head, then smoothly cut off the corresponding ball joint with a dremel or similar device. Don't try to saw it, don't try to break it.

If the joint is too small, use a dremel tool to make it bigger. It will sand it down, and make it wider, but you just have to be very carefull and go slowly. I used this with my Dark Gundam figure.

Making it smaller, I don't know. But I have heard that if you layer clear fingernail polish on the ball, it will make it slightly larger.
