First you need Photoshop.
Then you need a digital image such as a jpg or gif. Or you need a digital camera to photograph your items.
Then you can create a few blank layers or select parts you want to recolor.
It's complex to a novice. But once you get the hang of it, it's a piece of (Energon) cake!

were do i get photoshop?
It's not cheap. But if you're serious about it, there are multiple versions you can buy at different price points.
http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/family/edit: the other way is to simply ask someone to digibash something for you... just about any interesting request will have multiple takers.

If you want to try it out for yourself, but don't want to burn the cash or rip off Adobe, try going with GIMPshop. GIMP is a free (open source) image manipulation program. The "shop" comes from a variation of GIMP that makes it operate in many similar ways to Photoshop. I've been using it for some school projects and it's come in really handy when I'm doing stuff at home.
