It's best to take him apart some..Tape off windows, and the face. Take apart the hands, arms, lower legs and feet. The hands at the wrist, it's glued there, so carefully pry it apart, a little razor knife helps with that too. Pop that off, remove the one screw back by the elbow..Open slowly, so you can see how the inside track of his arm/hand work. The feet are like that too..Take them apart slowly. Try to see how it all goes inside. Take a pic for reference when you're putting it back to gether if you can too--It's all really easy actually. You can though, leave the hips and upper thighs alone. Just unscrew that single screw at his waist holding the 2 sections together. The head pops right off..There is no real need to take it apart..Just creatively cut tape, or use wall putty to cover it up completely. Just make sure you keep track where everything goes. He's easy enough to take apart, and basically just as easy to put back together.
Here are some progress pics I took when I was doing mine..Kinda might help some.

to add my 2 cents, like i know what i'm doing or something,...
if this is your first bash, wait. go get one of your junker loose bots and practice on them first. i wouldn't start on a $50+ toy. then move on.
yes, take him apart and wash all pieces before painting anything.
if you don't have one already, go to walmart/hobbylobby/micheal's and buy a soldering iron. you'll never get the pins out without it. make sure it has a pointy end attatchement. be sure and use pliars, pins get hot! also a set of good small screwdrivers to drive the ones out that you don't use the si for.
masking although tedious will become your best friend. i do all pegs and holes so things snap back easily.
when ever you unscrew something, after taking it apart, put the screw back in the post. it's the biggest pain trying to remember which screws go where. be sure and bag up the springs. put them in a ziplock and use masking tape to label where they go.
you aren't going to be able to take his head or forarms apart so you'll have to mask when painting them.
and most important don't get in a hurry.

I agree with Notorious STP. Practice on some scouts, or buy some loose bots on ebay, preferably the same color so you can experiment a bit.

How long are you letting the paint dry for? It takes a full week to bond with the plastic parts..The metal parts, well, it sits well enough, but, you change flaking and chipping on there. MP Prime has a ton of moving parts that are very snug..So, it will happen. You can try--Or should have tried--Sanding down the pieces first, where the joints are, or where the 2 pieces rub together..That kind of helps. And you're using a lighter coat of paint to cover a darker color, so you have to use more layers.

Yeah, generally I'll let mine sit for about a week, patience sucks, but it pays off on these things. Plus, if you're doing other repaints..It works out great as you can start working on them while this dries.
