Full Version: Jin's tip of the day: Need Rare Earth Magnets?

Like some of us you may want to attach extra parts to your Transformers and Rare Earth magnets are pretty useful. RadioShack has a pack of two for around $3. However I found a MUCH more plentiful supply in MagnaWheels Street Racers. These are little car-kits by Mega Bloks brand 'Magnetix'. I picked up the Dodge Viper for a blower/pipes for my Hot Rod custom and was thinking what I could do with the leftover car. One pair of clippers and five minutes later I had SIXTEEN rare earth magnets. Eight thin and eight stocky. They're round and about the same diameter as the radioshack magnets. The MagnaWheels are $8.99-$10 putting the magnets at sixy cents each or so. They're more powerful as well! So the next time you need some magnets, snag a MagnaWheels Street Racer kit and cack the magnets out of that. You'll even end up with rubber tires, engines, and extra stuff to use on your customs to boot!

Here's a pic of the leftover magnets. I used a bunch of the flat ones in my last customs so the stack isn't as big as it was. All that came from the one viper kit there!

I was going to ask where you picked up that Magnawheels car when I noticed there is an ad below from Magcraft. Checked it out briefly and it loks like they have a lot of the rare earth magnets.

I've had this magwarrior made by the same company I think, on my junk pile for the longest time (on clearance at zellers). I was originally dissapointed with the floppiness of the joints. Realize now, because one side is a half-sphere of metal, the magnets slide around too easy. Never thought to pull the magnets out and pair them up. The other bonus is you get a handfull of weapons and a flashing led in the head. Something else you might want to keep an eye out for.

Good tip. I usually get my magnets from http://www.kjmagnetics.com/

The prices are really good and shipping is fast and reasonable.

Just pennies a piece. I've ordered all mine from there... super cheap, super fast service.

Ummm... should those magnets be anywhere near your computer, DeeEnn?

Personally, I really like the size of Jin's Magwheels magnets... nice and compact for custom work, not that I've seriously considered going that route... yet.

Great links guys! I'm gonna stock up on some of those epoxy-coated kind. Seems like a good surface that won't scratch.

I second that.
I've been buying magnets from K&J Magnetics for like a year now for my Gundam models.
Great quality, great prices, great shipping. thumbsup1.gif
