MISB Fort Max, I think I have only ever seen 1 before, can you imagine the size of the AFA case for this puppy
Blitz
£205 with 9 days to go..

id love to get that but i just know its way way out of my price range
Bumblerod
Yep I enquired about a BIN and then backed off quick sharp !!! lol

If I was a rich boy I would have it and AFA it just so I had the ultimate!!

I'm not quite sure if it's genuinely MISB. I don't quite remember how they packaged them back in the 80's, but does this look like a factory tape job to you guys?

cloudhopper
Personnally, i not convinced that it's MISB.

The tape pictures have to much of a "magic tape" look and feel.
And why would Hasbro put two on the same side?
The tape is only a seal, therefore only 1 is needed.
I simply never saw 2 tapes on the same side of any box.

Even being Mint in Box, it is a great piece.
Blitz
true but if hes selling it MISB and its clear its been opened id be tempted to know what condition the contents are in
Calcifer
This is why I buy MIB, you can check out the contents. But that is sweet! Price is okay too.
cloudhopper
Mint in Box or not Mint in Box? That is the question.

There is always tremendous risks in buying these types of raw pieces including the gift sets. A couple pieces of tape could really ruin your day if you are speculating and getting it graded. I think on the FORT MAX there are either a total of 4 pieces of factory tape in two sets of two or 8 pieces of factory tape in four sets of two; I would have to check.

A couple years ago, there was actually a graded AFA 85 FORT MAX on eBay and I want to say it sold in the neighborhood of like $7500ish.

While anyone can just slap new tape on a box, it's really hard to remove tape once it's been applied. If that isn't the factory tape then there should be evidence of either cut or removed tape still on the box. The photos suck, but if the seller knows enough to take pictures of the tape then they probably also know enough to spot cut or removed tape. Plus they have good feedback, not something they'd want to risk. However, Transformers certainly aren't they're specialty, they might be just selling stuff on consignment, they certainly don't have much to say about their Transformers so their knowledge could be limited to whatever they're being told.

It's not factory sealed so whoever sealed it did it recently.
Emerje
Taking a closer look it actually looks like factory tape that someone lifted and put back. Notice now on the top flap the tape is perfectly smooth and clear, but at the other end on the back of the box it's wrinkled and there's a lot of air underneath like someone peeled it up and then tried to reapply it.

So bottomline it is NOT MISB.

Or piece of timber of same weight in box?
If you dont open you'd never know..
Zakufarmer
The factory tape probably would have yellowed by now. And like others have pointed out, the tape on that box looks too much like magic tape.

I really wish I would've had the room to store all of the TF boxes I had when I was younger. FM had one of the best boxes ever. Come to think of it, so did Metroplex, Trypticon, and Scorponok. thumbsup1.gif
BADxGUY
i think that is original tape!

but ima buy it and open it

I remember toy boxes used to have the coolest art on them of the coolest battle scenes until someone decided that they werent representative of the toy inside and had them done away with.

Agreed! So many G1 toys had awesome box art.
Emerje
And then it all came to a crashing hault with the Micromaster base battle scenes that looked like they were drawn by someone that didn't have enough crayons.
