Wow. Seems like a neat idea. Sorry I can't help, don't know Japanese. But when it's ready, lmk. I'll check it out in a heartbeat. I'd like to see how they did it.

Here's a screenshot of the upcomeing Neo! As you can see the quality is MUCH better!

Looks like good quality footage to me. Unfortunately I don't know Japanese so I'll just bump this back up to the first page for ya so more people notice the topic. By the way, how is the project coming so far. I'm excited to see it as Beast Wars was my favorite transformers series of all time. I was also wondering if there were any differences between the American version of Beast Wars and the Japanese version, if so I would love to see the Japanese version also. I just have to find it.

Btw, it's BWII, not BW2. It's pronounced "Beast Wars Second" and could also be abbreviated as BW2nd, but "BW2" which sounds like "Beast Wars Two" is incorrect.

I personally prefer sticking to Anglophone names in subtitles - e.g.: translating "Cybertron" and "Destron" as "Maximals" and "Predacons" respectively.

I speak Japanese, but I'm far too busy to help out w/ that much translation. I might be able to help with editing (re: nitpicking translation errors) if you want to run them by me... one thing I'm good at is Outback retention. icon_wink.gif

haha, i think we all know that by now, if not then everyone should tounge1.gif

as for subtitles, well, i actually prefer the translation to remain as close as possible the the source. even with tf, i'd rather hear convoy and read convoy then hear convoy and read optimus prime, it throws me all off center. i don't think i'd ever actually pony up and buy an american rls of the JP g1 shows because i KNOW they'd do stupid Blot like that and it'd just mess me up.

also, OP, maybe i'm just knit picking here, but is there a reason you're working with wmv format as opposed to an avi format?
Goktimus Prime
The Australian DVDs of Headmasters/Masterforce/Victory offer 2 sets of subtitles - Anglophone and Japanese names. At first I thought this was kinda redundant, but I see now that it would offer more variety for fans like BK who prefer reading subs w/ Japanese names. smiletf.gif
ErikB
i also prefer the japanese names as opposed to the americanized names. Will you be doing sub-titles only, or will there be speaking roles as well?
Goktimus Prime
Hopefully just fan subs... *shudders @ thought of fan dubs*
Doctor Stupid
Whoohoo! Bootlegs!
Cyberpredicus
how is the project coming so far, can't wait until it's finished.
Blitz
i say keep the Japanese names and good luck with this project sadly id be no use

actually, fwiw, it woudln't be that hard to offer two sets of subtitles, one with english names and one with japanese names.

I'm totally out if the subtitles say Maximal or Predacon in them. Its legit or it isn't for me.

But if you can make a good subbed BWII movie that doesn't have yellow text on white background, I might give it a try.

The Quality of the BW-II and neo episodes are decent at best they are from a vhs source badly captured i bought a set as well of BW IIi really wanted to see them tounge1.gif
( yea grifterprime i know you got em of a torrent )

what i mean with poor/bad capture :
BWII episode one after the opening the panning is awefull just to name one
almost all episodes have no aspect ratio or TV overscan which means the picture is stretched way to much on a tv just look at the opening of the cartoon

Its great your trying to sub them Grifter but if the subbing is like your re-encoded .avi file mate you need help it won't work on a dvd the subs would be out of the picture
and seeing the photo of the menu (dvd it) ...your using .avi files ?
mate do you know what your doing ?? did you correct the aspect ratio of the files (aka adding borders?)
did you correct the mono audio from disc 02 to disc 08? to atleast stereo ?, have you gotten rid of the bad telecine/double blending on some of the episodes ?

i'm just asking this and letting people know not to waste their bandwidth unless you fixed all the mistakes as good as possible or you'll have many unhappy folks that want to see beast wars second and beast wars neo and like to watch em on tv not on a monitor

I'll make some comparison shot of the remade and the captured files as soon as i can figure out how to post em tounge1.gif i'm totally new to this any help is much appreciated

remade? yea i re-encoded them to huffyuv (12GB files) and filtered out the problems and corrected the AR aswell up to episode 20 and encoded them with Cinecraft Encoder SP2 (Original) 4-Passes when i finish the serie i'll share it to those who want it smiletf.gif [No Subs]

720x480, NTSC, AC3 224Kbps (2.0 Stereo), Interactive DVD Menu

the subs wouldn't be a problem. i havn't seen any of his stuff, but as long as you don't hardcode the subs to the video file, the dvd player will correct them. with really long sentences you might wanna split them up into two lines, but really it shouldn't be a problem at all.

I actually prefer the American names, unless they mess with continuity somehow. If possible, I'd offer two subtitle tracks- one with the American names and one with the Japanese names. Then, everyone will be happy.

I don't know Japanese, so I can't help you out. Good luck with the project, though- if you succeed, the fandom is going to be very happy.
