Dreamengine? Really?
According to

So, um, not a lot of help for you there, Splendic!

oh well, these series' will never be worth anything anyways. But they were a good series. I think we should look more towards the movie instead. It's all the more concrete than the "DreamEngine" Theory.

Considering the pisspoor sales and the fact that DW pissed off a lot of fans with the direction they took things in, yeah...I'm not too sure how the new license would be handled, much less whether or not anyone would wanna take the risk since DW died because of the lack of TF book sales.

Hasbro decided not to renew their license with the Lees long ago. DreamEngine never had the chance. DDP was "rumored" to be getting it, but we still haven't heard anything concrete. I tend to slip in and out of "the know," and I haven't heard anything from any of my contacts

here's what i've heard:
-Dark Horse, Devil's Due, D.C Comics, Alias Enterprises, and a number of smaller publishers all wanted it.
-Alias didnt get it [supposedly Hasbro's top choice. Only reason it didnt go to them was that the Hasbro execs [people who would never see nor care about the comic anyway] urged that they went with a "more established" company]
-Devils Due doesnt have it
-Marvel was never even considered [tho its been said Marvel asked, just for kicks and giggles, how much the license would be]
-somebody "more established" already has it
-Hasbro is keeping it a secret/unable to say/waiting to say(most likely) until a press release [which i've figured from talking to HasbrO]

Off topic, but I've never heard of Alias. What comics do they put out?

soon?
hehe, honestly i dunno. Judging by the Furman interview and some heresay i've heard on the net a press release should be coming pretty quick
As for Alias? Alias is a breakout company being run by Devils Due's TF/GI JOE vol1 penciller Mike S. Miller.
For being such a green company [of only a few months or so] they've produced quite a bundle of best selling comic books that have crazily taken the industry by storm. Books like "Lullaby: The Wisdom Seeker" and "Lions, Tigers, & Bears" have completely sold out on every issue thus far [and i mean COMPLETELY]. Trades are on the way and critics absolutely adore these couple of titles. So far Alias is doing quite well
[Mike S. Miller was also the guy behind the Comic Resource Book that published the unprinted G1 pages]

Having read their licensed comics (24, CSI, The Shield) I gotta say that this will be a big waste of my time and money. They frequently hire writers with no knowledge of the property (The Shield, fer instance, was a joke.) or the stories are so mediocre that no one would ever buy the comic if not for the brand name. Then you've got the lousy coloring, bad art and the $4 cover price for a 22 page comic. No thanks. Luckily the Galaxy Force TV series is good enough to maintain my interest in the ongoing TF story.

Ryall: We're looking to offer the IDW take on Transformers, actually. We've all read the Dreamwave books, and I think they had a great group of creators working on those books - they really did an impressive job and helped build the brand into its status as one of the more iconic licenses in comics, but at the outset, we don't plan to follow any path that's come before. Instead, we've worked hard on a sound publishing plan that will not only relaunch the property but also carry it into the future in interesting and creative ways.
well that answers the question of continuing dreamwave's story

the newest info is here:
http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/thread75694.htmlI have no idea WHY they think they need to update everyone in G1 and still pretend that it's G1. That's what the movie is doing. That's what Armada, RiD, Rnergon & Galaxy Force did too. Why do we need one more updating of the mythos? "Ultimate Transformers" would work perfectly well with the G1 designs.
Of course the lemmings who accept anything dished out to them (even George Clooney!) are sucking IDW's off in joy over this news.
Just do Generation One AS GENERTION ONE. If you don't have enough imagination to do G1 PROPERLY the you didn't deserve the frickin' license to begin with.
Tokyopop had put together the best proposal for this brand. They proposed to continue the cartoon continuity in such a way that they were in effect going to tell the stories from the 19-year gap between season two and TFTM. Nebulos enough to avoid copyright issues, but specific enough that everyone knew exactly what they were doing. (Basically, exactly wht DDP was doing with GI Joe & the Marvel canon.) They even wanted Simon involved.
Hell, even the DC/Wildstorm, Dark Horse AND Marvel proposals had offered the actual Generation One series. Why Hasbro choose THIS *edit* over those other proposed licensors when the movie was going to be telling the exact same story next year is beyond me.

a restart is preferable, especially with the movie on the way. Ultimate X-Men did increasingly well with the release of the X-Men movies, Ultimate Spider-Man did as well with Spider-Man, and All-Star Batman & Robin is expected to follow suit after Batman Begins. Comics like these are perfect for people who become fans because of the movies. The problem with G1 is that it doesn't offer an easy "jumping on" point for new fans, it's very hard for them to get into it with such a far reaching, established continuity. And besides, I'm sick of your basic "G1" and I'm looking forward to Furman and IDW's spin on this. Oh, and DC/Wildstorm and Marvel weren't interested in the TF license, so why would Hasbro give it to them. For some reason, they chose IDW. And that's fine, it's better than no TF comics. If you don't like the direction, then don't buy it. Simple as that.

So long as the characters personalities are properly represented, then I have no problem with the redesigns. The comic is suppose to focas more on the covert side of Transformers anyhow right? How are they gonna hide as 20 year old vehicles?

pretty much, it died with Rebirth part 3, and Marvel's G1 #80. DW tried to resuscitate G1, and it may have succeeded if Dreamwave wasn't run by a coupla doucheplugs. I'm glad that IDW is trying something new, rather than trying pick up where DW left off or take another stab at G1. G1 is old hat, give me something new.

For an introductury issue, there was a suprising lack of those that should be the centre focus of the series. There weren't really any Transformers appearing, just vehicle-modes, which we, only as fans, could recognize as Transformers. I'm not bashing it, but it is clearly part of a more elaborated plot, which requires the reader to regularly buy the issue. For an introduction-issue, you should try to get people exited about the comic, which, from a normal comic-purchasers POV, this issue didn't do. I don't really feel the "OMFG, I LOVE THIS"-feeling.
