Don't know if anyone already posted this but does anyone have any pix of the Autobot Team in robot mode and alt mode? I wanted to see if they are close to scale, I got BB and Jazz on my shelf and found Ironhide and Ratchet today and haven't decide if I'm gonna open it to display. I wanted to see if they look good on display with each other.

The Autobots are somewhat on scale with each other. Taken in to account that you have Leader Prime.

The decepticons aren't, they're a mess when it comes to scales.
Hip-Hoptimus Rime
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it is generally agreed that Voy. Ratchet and Dx. 76 Bumblebee are a little too small for Leader Prime, Voy. Ratchet, and Dx. Jazz. IIRC. HTH

Since when has scale been an issue with displaying TFs?? rodimusgrinstatic.gif

The scale is not perfect, but they do look good displayed together. they just made Blackout too damn small. He should have gotten the Leader class treatment, not Brawl IMO.
Hot Rod
this whole continued debate makes me rolleyestf.gif since they aren't in scale and you just need to pick what best suits your fancy and either buy the toys or don't. Who.gives.a.crap.

The autobots look great together. Scales aren't the same, but they are close enough that it doesn't bother you if you are trying to recreate a movie scene or something. I have both Leader and Robovision Prime, and I think Leader looks better with all of them. However, RV prime (or Voyager) looks OK with '76 Bumblebee and Ironhide. A display with Jazz or Ratchet needs Leader Prime.

There are essentially two scales of Autobots:

1:28-1:30 - Leader Prime, Rachet and Jazz
1:34-1:38 - Voyager Prime, Ironhide and 76/09 Bumblebee (Barricade falls within this group as well)

Trench, what measurement did you use to come up with Voyager Prime's scale of 1/38? I think I came up with 1/42 for him, but I remember him being a tough one to get a good measurement on.

I used the width of the truck. The numbers I found on the internet indicated a Peterbilt 379 is supposed to be 96 inches wide - I then divided 96 by the 2.5 inches I measured for the toy to get 1:38. Another common truck width is 102 inches, which may be the number you used - this would give a scale of 1:41, which may be how you calculated it. However, I happen to have a nice 1/43 scale model of a Mercedes race truck (of which the real truck is about 100" wide) that is quite a bit narrower than Voyager Prime, so I think the 1:38 number is correct.

However, the real problem with calculating scales for these guys is that they are toys and not scale models, so the various dimensions can vary quite a bit. Optimus is one of the worst offenders, since the length of both the Voyager and the Leader aren't quite in proportion to that of the real truck, so you can't look at length or wheelbase measurement (which would be difficult anyway, since those dimensions can vary quite a bit - although, my guess would be that the truck they used for the movie had a 280 in wheelbase). Of the remaining Autobot's, Rachet's also varies quite a bit, his wheelbase is 1:32 of an H2, while his width is 1:28 (the only two measurements I felt comfortable comparing) - and '76 Bumblebee is probalby the best, his length (1:36), wheelbase (1:35) and width (1:35), are within the boundries of error. The Decepticon's indivdual dimensions can vary even more - likely the cars have to stay close because if they were off by too much it would be more obvious (since most people aren't used to looking at military hardware).

I think the point about them being toys and not replica models is a good one. They are not scale vehicles to begin with, so you do get different ratios on the same toy when calculating scale using height, wheelbase, or width. I tried using as many measurements as I could find and agreed with your scales except for Voyager Prime, which I think is because I tried wheelbase as well as width for him (which made my number come out smaller than yours).

That would make sense, Voyager Prime is probably a good 1.5-2 inches short, which is why he looks a bit odd from the side - as the end of the sleeper section actually overlaps the forward rear wheel, on the real truck these were separated by a good two feet. I think there was actually another chromed, step/toolbox after the fuel tank that's missing on the Voyager. Both Voyager/Leader Primes are missing the chain-guard thing behind the sleeper section as well (although, surprisingly the little 3" Titatium Prime has one of these).

They all seem just fine for scale to me (even if it's a little off, but not too bad to an extremely noticable point). My only issue is Jazz seems a little too tall in robot mode, but that's about it.

Thanks guys, I don't usually open my TF since majority of my collection is the Takara G1 reissue, toysrus reissue, Masterpiece and a few loose vintage. I wasn't planning on buying the movie toys until I saw it in person, my original plan was to get a BB for my 1 year old son. But the attention for him went to BBs missle, then now here I am playing with it and got hooked. Then I got Jazz and now I want it all, all I need is the Concept Camaro BB and my movie toy characters are complete, I'm still waiting for the new BB in the mail (purchased 2 from ebay). So basically I have 1 of each character unopened and got another set to open and display.

Both Prime and this truck are the same height.

As you can see Leader is closer to scale but maybee Ratchet is taller than a normal H2
