Um, the soldiers *do*. The ones moving the pieces on the chess board are the ones who don't have to see it happen. Dick Cheney & George Bush don't have to see combat (no change there) and the soldiers end up with PTSD. Nice.
Wow, singling out the Pres and VP. Damn I know a few have done it in history have been involved in a war before they were Elected to office but must this be the requirement now? The last President I can think of that fought in a war was President Bush.
Other than that I don't think we'll ever see a President or VP leading the charge over the hill.
Looks like there was a gap in the early 20th century, but the majority of Presidents have served in the military (lol Texas Air National Guard). Not sure about the Vice Presidents, though.
Personally, I'd like a President to have some military service if he/she is going to lead troops as Commander In Chief. But that's just me.
