Now, all non-Uk bods can watch small clips of Top-Gear and others on youtube, but domestic viewers cannot.

Main probs with this:

1/ Uk viewers pay the license fee that partly funds the BBC and the youtube site (plus adverts, which is "why" you guys cannot view the site).

2/ The BBC is notorious for being lax when it comes to actually making teir product available. Either by DVD sales or making their channels/shows available on foreign TV networks (BBc Japan recently folded after terrible placement and not even a mention of its existance on Japan's BBc WORLD channel, which hosts adverts anyway).

3/ The youtube clips take ages to be display in some cases.

4/ etc

They replied to a recent letter I emailed them about the lack of Uk support:

Hi, primalconvoy

We're sorry you're not enjoying the clips. You may wish to know that we will be uploading further clips going forward so there may be some that you like in the future.

You should be able to see our clips from anywhere in the world, since we have not put a geo-ip restriction on them.

Regards,
BBCWorldwide
Thing is, its been widely reported that they HAVE placed UK restrictions:

The advertising-funded clips will be available to users outside the UK only.

Here is the great site:

Remember though, some clips wont be available to you.

if you find a way around it, then please let me know and Ill post it at the bbc youtube site showing others how to circumvent them.

cheers

The BBC does confuse & annoy me. There are supposed to be no adverts, yet they are always pimping their dvds/soundtracks, etc between programms, and I have had to go to US websites to get some BBC series' & dramas on DVD, as they are not released in the UK (can any Americans claim to have bought three series of Bottom? It was available 2 years earlier in america than the UK). Utter madness. cliffjumper.gif

All work fine for me!

this was on the site as a comment:

primalconvoy - apologies for any confusion in the press about this - it is a bit complex. The first BBC News content we will add will be World News - the commercial BBC News channel for non-license-fee payers outside the UK. So that's why it will have ads and why it won't be visible in the UK.

Rest assured we are also at the same time working on launching a UK BBC News channel which will be not have ads and will be available in the UK. Just like there are no ads on any of the content in this channel.

Any complications in this are due to the unique way in which the BBC is funded.

Its a pain but if you genuinely dont watch TV:

What if I only use a TV to watch videos/DVDs/as a monitor for my games console? Do I still need a licence?

You need to notify us in writing that this is the case and one our Enforcement Officers may need to visit you to confirm that you do not need a licence.
Please write to us including your name, address and the reason you believe that you don't need a licence at:

If they are going to release a Uk only news online video news service then why do they need to DUPLICATE it for th non-Uk viewers? At the end of the day, people will just go to one site, leaving the other dead. Im sure most international users would choose a video link with no ads than one including them.

Silly, silly, silly.
