Wasn't Liefield Pat Lee's mentor? (probably explains a lot - I hate both Liefield and Lee's art)
Forget his so-called theological research - he clearly hasn't even done historical research. I'm not religious at all, but I can tell you that
fashion wise half the crap those guys are wearing are completely out of period. Textiles and fashion, like a lot of things, is based on technology (in fact, it was the textiles industry (primarily in Germany) that was the forerunner to modern-day R&D - something that saw an explosion (sic) in popularity after the advent of the atomic bomb)... some of those characters are wearing clothes based on textile and fashion technology that absolutely did not exist back then!
When I was a uni student I used to be a member of a medieval and renaissance recreation society and other people would nitpick the crap out of you if you had even a stitch method that was historically inaccurate. Our costumes had to be historically accurate down to the last thread.
And to be fair and inclusive, Liefield should now do comics based on other religious texts too. I would seriously
love to see a comic book done on the Buddhist tale of Saiyuuki (Journey To The West) - which was the core inspiration for Dragon Ball.
