I have this old toy. I have wondered for the longest time what it is. On the back it says © 1978 Carolina Enterprises Inc, Made in Taiwan. Also has a logo for Empire "toys kids love." His left hand has some very pathetic spring-loaded shooting action. In the heels of his feet he can shoot these sharp pointy little yellow missiles - they were hella powerful!

Edit: BW Snapper is provided just for scale purposes. The yellow alien probably stands 8" tall or so. His legs, body, and upper arms are die cast, while I think the rest is plastic.

this thread is useless without pics

Um... it has a pic? I can see it from both of the computers I have tried it from. If you can't see it try this direct URL:

not a clue my friend. Does this thing have a stamp?

(it'd help if I read the WHOLE post)

So far I have determined...

Carolina Enterprises Inc
aliases: Empire of Carolina, Tarheel Industries Inc, Empire Industries, Marchon, Caldwell Button Company
Toy division called: Empire Toys

Found him!

His name is "Mars" from the Star Mite series!!

"In the early '80s, a company called Empire Toys began methodically releasing all of Shinsei's UFO Commander series under a new name: "Star Mites." Empire not only released the original six UFO pieces but apparently managed to get the rights to Yonezawa's Astekaizer series as well -- and mixed and matched parts from both series to create a set of bizarre mutations as well."

You will find it on this page:

Sweet!!! Thank you soooo much!

This guy really is pretty cool if you are into things from way back when. His leg joints are loose but maybe I can tighten them up somehow. He is missing the back of his belt but otherwise is complete-ish.

So good to finally know what he is!
