Well I decided to mod my old Classics Grimlock thread to show my Animated Grimlock Repaint since I can't start a new thread anymore.

I'll just use this thread to show my custom painted Grimlocks.

I'll add some Dino-mode pictures when the paint cures more

Soon to come K-mart legends Grimlock Repaint & Classic Grimlock repaint.
QUOTE (original post)
I just got Grimlock in the mail today and the backwards shoulders bothered me, so I knocked out the pins and swapped them. I also reversed the black tabs and they do keep the shoulders in place better now...

Sorry about the crappy picture
Oh and I noticed when doing this mod... The screws where really tight and harder to remove than normal, and when I re-assembled it on the correct side the screws went easily. So I believe this is how it was intended to be in the first place.

Can you be a little more indepth? This sounds quite useful!

Sure
1. I unscrewed the the two screws in the back of the upper torso.
2. Take the srews out of the shoulders.
3. Remove Shoulder covers & slide arms off.
4. Knock out the pins that hold the shoulders in place.
5. Swap the should base assemblies.
6. Swap the upper arm pieces.
7. Re-assemble.
The black tabs are easy, but also a pain..
1. Knock the pin out of the back piece then remove.
2. Knock the pins out of the tabs (the pain part).
3. Swap tabs.
4. Re-assemble.

Looks good, but what benefits does he have with regards to posing?

Nothing really it just puts the screws facing the back and you are able to keep the shoulders in place better. And releaves the bind that the shoulder srews were in from the factory.

Damn my lack of bashing skills. I'd do it, but no skills. Have frustration with pins and wind up hurting things more than fixing and/or modding.

I was looking at my Gimlock and was thinking about doing the same thing to the shoulders. Then I did think about how they would look in dino mode and decided not switch them.

As of yet, I have no interest in doing the shoulder swap mod...however, I do have a heavy interest in doing the CONNECTOR swap mod. Is that possilbe, or is it all or nothing? As well...
What's the best way to remove a pin? I don't own a vice of any sort...

Well you shouldn't need a vice. Maybe Vice Grips or pliers. A hammer and a thin nail, or something that can stand to smacked by a hammer, yet strong enough and long enough to push the pin out.
Find the side of the pin that has the serrated end (normally its closer to the end of the pin hole) You have to drive the pin out from the opposite side of the serrated end (other wise damage will be done). When you get enough of the serrated end out, use the Vice Grips to pull it out. Voila, a removed pin.

What tool did you use to knock the pins out of the shoulders? I just got my Grim last night and I see what you meant about being annoyed by that shoulder assembly. It's the only part I'd change only because I think Grim prefers his dino mode and it dosen't take anything from the transformation scheme.

I use a small center punch or nail and slowly drive them out with a hammer they come out pretty easily.

That would actually be more work than just taking him apart and putting him back together again wouldn't it?

it takes longer but all you're doing is cutting, glueing, and painting.

But that just seems like a strange way to go about things when you can just flip and swap parts.

I know what you mean... I actually haven't seen him at retail yet... I won this guy off ebay a month or two ago.
When I do see him at a retail store I plan on at least getting two more... one to display unmodified and one to keep MISB because I love everything Grimlock

I had no idea that I was breaking any kind rule by posting in a old thread... I haven't posted a custom in a very long time.

Sorry, for the confusion guys. Its not a rule so much as us trying to better organize things so you're stuff will get showcased and listed properly with all the other customs - since not everyone looks at the forums.
All you need to do is make a gallery and upload the images. From there a new topic will be created just for it, your custom will be featured here in the Garage and you'll be added to mechanics list. Please give it a chance. It is for a really good cause - YOU.

Fresh repaints Olds - Both look much improved! The flatter colors & simpler styling suit your 'toon version perfectly, while the other Grim's increased details really embellish his mechanical form well.
great work.
