Ok, since JLU was cancelled I decided to start picking up the comic book adaption by Johnny DC. Actually, I collected it from the beginning, even when it was just Justice League, alongside Batman: Gotham Adventures and then when they switched back to Batman Adventures. But then I had to limit my spending, so I dropped JLU around issue #8. But now, I've already dropped a lotta books, and came into some cash, so decided to pick it up again and fill all the necessary gaps. I gotta say, this book is great if you need your JLU fix, especially since it is not limited by the regulations imposed on Timm during the shows run. That mean, we get heroes like Blue Beetle, Firestorm, Black Lightning, Zauriel, Ragman, Dr. Occult, and Phantom Stranger making appearances alongside heroes that did make it into the show. Heck, we even get Batman villains too. Although, just as with the Batman Adventures and all it's variations, it slips in and out of cartoon continuity, so don't try to hard to connect it with the show. You'll just get a headache. Examples include:
-Wonder Woman stated she remembered travelling back in time with GL and Batman, but didn't in the show
-Hawkgirl being a member in the first issue with her old costume
-the Watchtower occasionally resembling the version from JL seasons 1 and 2
-season 1 and 2 Javelins
and so forth. My suggestion, if you miss JLU pick up this comic and just sit back and enjoy. There's been some really great stories too, like when the League travels back in time with Shining Knight to save Camelot from Morgan Le Fay. Or when the Freedom Fighters duke it out with the League. Or the Trenchcoat Brigade (Deadman, Zauriel, Zatanna, Dr. Occult, Dr. Fate, Phantom Stranger, and Etrigan) travel to Limbo to liberate it from the Demon's Three. Adam Beechen's storytelling combined with Carlos Barberi's artwork make this book very enjoyable. But when Beechen gets a filler artist the story tends to suffer as well and isn't as much fun when it's painful to look at.
