Well, they're remaking Thundercats. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised by any remakes at this point, but somehow Thundercats seemed untouchable. Not for the sanctity of the material, just because it's hard enough to believe someone was willing to make a cartoon about a group of cat-people from the planet Thundera fighting a transforming mummy and his band of mutants in the first place, let alone remake it. Luckily, the content is being re-imagined with the same desperate sense of "cool" as a divorced dad trying hopelessly to win the affections of his child:

WB animation is remaking the Thundercats as an animated TV series. The animation style is whimsical, Americanized-anime, along the lines of Teen Titans. The setting is modern-day Earth, in a major city (possibly LA) The Thundercats are all teenagers. Their leader is Snarf (!) who is now a mystic with a "third" eye. Each of the Thundercats has a weapon with an "Eye of Thunderra" and transformative powers (not just Lion-O) When they aren't fighting evil, the Thundercats play together as a rock band. That's not a typo, or a joke. They are rockin' cats in their present form. Mum-Ra now has wings.

Seeing as how they're willing to make changes to the point of making the entire group teenagers in a rock band together, I have some other ideas they might as well tack on as well. First, let's forget fighting the mutants. They can just travel place to place solving mysteries. And ditch the whole "cat-people" idea. They can just wear cat costumes (long tails and ears for hats). And while we're at it, call them Josie and the Beastboxcats.

Oh, and give Mum-Ra some Powerglideing wings, for god's sake.
Optimal-T
That's even worse than what they did to G.I. Joe, He-Man, and Voltron combined.

Josie and the Thundercats!!!!!!!!

Awesome!

well, it was only a matter of time, as they seem to be regurgitating all the 80's toy ideas.

Now get onto re-releasing M.A.S.K.

Agree on M.A.S.K! and would the Shadow Chronicles count for Robotech? It's coming out sometime in November.

Anyways...for the new Thundercats series...sounds just about as bad as Shaggy and Scooby Get a Clue.

M.A.S.K. redux -----> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vor-Tech thumbsup1.gif

oh, and Robotech/Macross can suck a big fat juicy one.

*edit*

oh, and go here and look at the Vor-Tech toys. You'll notice that a LOT of the toys were downright similar to MANY M.A.S.K. vehicle designs.

The toys were awesome, but the shows sucked. Let's let M.A.S.K. stay dead in its peaceful quiet sleep and not ruin the awesomeness that it still retains to this day. JMO thumbsup1.gif

hey redone Ghostbusters. It was crap. They redone Voltron. It was crap. They redone HeMan. It was crap. They redone GI Joe. It's... not half bad. They redone Transformers. It was... well, you know optimuslaugh2.gif

Chances of TC being cool now: Crap.

I agree and disagree. Observe:

- The new Ghostbusters wasn't so bad, it was just really EXTREEEEEM

- Voltron WAS garbage to begin with. Again, another case of cool toys, Blotty show.

- He-Man was ghey. Still is ghey. And forever will remain: GHEY

- the new GI Joe(s) would have been cool if they had stuck with the 80's show characters, but instead they made up new guys like Havoc and that guy with the robotic arm or whatever. Oh, and no Roadblock in the new series = automatic removal of all coolness whatsoever. "If I aint in the show, it's guarenteed to blow."

- Transformers is a tough call for some people. IMO, G2 (which was CYBERCUBE'D G1) sucked, Beast Wars was PowerglideING SPECTACULAR, Beast Machines was BEAST WARS + DARKER CHARACTERS AND STORY = KICK ASS x 100000000, RiD was "Americanized" Transformers: Victory, Armada wasn't bad once the characters got the Powerglide off of Earth. I haven't watched any Energon or Cybertron episodes, but from what I've heard, they both stink like the dingleberries hanging off Hornet's ass.

redoing Thundercats would be like taking some 20 year old Blot, eating it, and then crapping out new Blot. You can't refine Blot into something better, no matter how many times you "reprocess" it.

Well...Maybe there is one exception...

If they redid Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future, I think it would totally kick ass.

I tried to watch Silverhawks, I really did.

it was too painful even for 11-12 year old me.
WarMegatron
God if there is a new Robotech series, it better be the entire Sentenels series not just a pilot series.

the new He-man was far better than that Blot they had back in the eightys.

an this new TC series seems idiotic to say the least... why couldn't they have made the newer comics into a cartoon, with the rest of the thudarians coming to third earth and Mum ra being dead.
Optimal-T
I, personally, liked the old He-Man a lot better than the new He-Man simply because it was the show that I grew up with.

God help us if they decide to do this Blot to She-Ra.
Hellscream333
I too likede the new He-man.

The new Voltron sucked but that's not saying much because the old one sucked too.

I can understand that, but objectively, you must notice the obvious differences in quality. This is coming from a guy who was a major he-man fanboy as a little kid, no less.

Incase anyone still cares...
This treatment of the ThunderCats has been canned and new one has come to replace it. I can't find the link right now, but basically...

They got rid of everyone having an Eye of Thundera.
Lion-O is still a teenager, Cheetara & Tygra are in their early 20's-ish, Panthro is middle-age, the Kids are well still kids, and Snarf is Lion-O's mentor and uses a jetpack to get around.
Jaga is not currently set to be in it.
Panthro, Cheetara, and Tygra all still have their signature weapons, however Lion-O might be given a new weapon that is not a sword. The sword might be replaced with a staff with the Eye of Thundera on the top of it.

Mumma-ra won't appear until much later in the series, as the Mutants will be the first main threat for the first half of the first season. Rumor has it that Hammerhand and the Berserkers will be in the series towards the end.
I.S.T.
That's a whole lot better.

Though I doubt it won't suck, but at least if my sisterl ikes it for some godawful reason, the chances of me hating it when I get stuck with it are lower now.
Hellscream333
Well this is better.....

Dude the new GI Joe is like awesome(Comparatively) and stuff. it's actually watchable, even with the Blotty voice acting.

the new he-man was also decent.

The voltron sucked, however. I watched it a fair bit, so I should know. >.> In my defence, I was 11.

Agent TMan
This sounds like like worse of a change than TMNT Fast Forward. When they changed He-Man, I felt like it was an upgrade. I dont remember the old show that well though
I'm Batman
Actually TMNT Fast Forward isn't that bad. They kept the same writers so the show still has the same feel and they haven't let the stupid kid take over the series. This new Thundercats concept (both of them) sound like complete garbage, even by today's standards.

I liked the new He-man, I like the new G.I Joe.

I watched the first season of Voltron the 3rd Dimension (hopefully the next series is better).

Looking at the toys in Walmart, TMNT are goona change into what made me hate the original show in the 90's. That show made me mad. The turtles were already mopping the floor with their enemies, then they took it to the next level by making the turtles HULK out into bigger fighting machines. It was so boring cause there was no sense of danger. In Walmart the other day, I see the new turtles are gonna be mutating again into bigger monsters.

I do have to admit though in the new show, the turtles dont always win hands down.
I'm Batman
Nope, the new show has lots of consequences for the Turtles actions. They've done a really good job with the characters. I was dissapointed that they skipped out on airing the ninja tribunal stuff, but what can you do? I'm still glad they haven't let the kid take over the show. I was so scared that was going to happen.

A lot of the ninja turtles toys have nothing to do with the show whatsoever, or are only in one or two episodes.

So you mean in the new TMNT show, Fast Forward...the Dark Turtles aren't like new awesome enemies but just the turtles mutated farther into Hulk-Like beings....*sigh*. I had stopped watching the original TMNT show back during it's 5th season. I only enjoyed season 1-4 mainly of the original 80's-90's cartoon. I've only seen season 1 & 2 of the Newer TMNT cartoon done in 2003-ish.

I liked the old He-Man and I'll tell you why.

He-Man was the one of the reasons why I got up on Saturday mornings. He was the Blotz as far as I'm concerned. In the new He-Man you don't even get any of the life's lessons that the old shows had. It's nowhere near on the same level as the old show is. That plus the serpent people? Give me a break please. bumblebeetounge.gif
The new show may have had things in common with the old show, ie: Larry DiTillio's brilliant scriptwriting, but the old show beats the new show 2000 xs over.
