There were a number of smaller transforming toys made by I am pretty sure a was Japanese company named "Mark" that were released mostly by GiG. Stuff like the Focus Robo as a mini-Microx and the Robo car as a Mini-Black Cherry Vanette. Anyone know of these and what the deal is with them? I have always wondered.

The box looks like it says "Mark" and that might be a sideways "2" under it. See it under the GiG logo there:

It's like this. GiG had the license to release Diaclone and Microman toys under whatever product lines they wanted. This does not mean that all GiG toys were from those lines. So your answer is no. See how Hasbro releases Diaclone toys in Transformers, but not all Transformers were Diaclone. It's like that. They had a bunch of other people's stuff, and added in some of their own product too. It is also obvious that GiG wasn't the master of toy making either.

On a side note, those first two were released under the "Convertors" banner in the US.

Yes, Tripedacus is absolutely right ! Anyway I'd add to this discussion that Mark is a famous company in the japanese toy-collectors area cause they made the only God Mazinger figure during 80s...

Those Converters sold for a couple bucks each at KB's in the 80's. I always wanted the Colt and it looks like the clip isn't removable.

GiG is Official. GiG is to Italia Like Hasbro is to US. Just the company that puts them out. So Don't steer away from them.

hi guys! i apologize for my not very perfect english!
Transformable Mark * toys under italian GiG (and not GiGi, as i read sometimes on ebay) are all perhaps "TRASFORMER", not TransFormers or Diaclone...
in some way.. yes, are however a kind of pre-tf (because we italians have these before TRASFORMER and TransFormers), but not diaclone.
These 3 in pictures are also someone of robot spies in convertors toys serie.

* Mark is a underbrand of Takatoku = cheap toys.

If we're talking about the early versions of the Autobot cars in the Italian GiG Trasformer boxes... YES, of course they are. The packaging and marketing are the ONLY things made by GiG. The toys are 100% Takara Diaclones.. Well, I mean the Pre-Tf G1 items, anyways. lol
As far as those pics of the items in this post. I don't think they qualify, seeing as they have no reference or mention in the TF pre or post universe. Gig marketed quite a few toys back in the early 80s.
