Full Version: What if Marlboor was a hoax?

In my recent obcession with this toy/character, I had the idea that if there was ever a chance someone could hoax a Diaclone, it'd be this one.

Color variations is a simple spray of red paint, and the blue windshield.

The face is easially swapped out.  And stickers are also simple enough.

What other G1 could possibly be hoaxed into a variant?

Mirage with a face plate?
Hound with a different head?

I've seen several auctions with painting done to the body to claim it as a variant. mainly optimus prime (tons of faked red-foots) and some gun-robos (all were KO's) with paint jobs to make them seem to be variant diaclones/micromen

I just got someone elses basic attempt to make a Marlboor WJ off the Bay in some cheap lot.  Was my impulse buy for $20 junkers for the month (and my last for some time)

I already had the repro Marlboor head, and swapped out a lesser windshield from another WJ (so have one good WJ I might re-sell, and the 1/2 painted repro faced and worn windshield custom)

Was thinking about dropping the $12 to check out Reprolables sticker sheet.

Has anyone purchased this thing yet?  Does it convert ALL the paint (red bits and all?)

Shelved is my other idea, to make the Snake Eyes all black and gray version (unless KEN at TransRepro comes back to make more, and I ever find the black WJ I started many many years ago...)

Fakeable yes. But I think people who are looking at this stuff have a very keen eye for the real thing. Considering the prices that fig demands, you better be makin' sure you are getting the real thing. biggrintf.gif

That said, I am also curious about the Reprolables set. I have an extra G1 WJ I got to mod since I dont think I will ever own a real one. The other sets I have from them are as good as it gets. Their precision pre-cutting and print quailty is as good as it gets from what I can tell.

I ordered the sheet from reprolables, and have the extra WJ ready to be converted.

Before they changed their web page, the small pict of the sheet they showed had all the red bits, so one could completely redo the car, cept the face of course (thanks TransRepro for that).

I found scans of the real sticker sheet and made my own custom once already, with the blue windshield and wings also from TransRepro.  It came out good, sticker's I made are decent, but probably not the quality of a higher end printer and paper.  The original sticker sheet does not help with the red paint, that requires some tape and a couple coats of spray paint.

All in all, I'm happy with the first one, and will be just as happy with the second, which will probably go with me to work.

Kinda obcessed with this character/toy.
