Yes, I finally got home to watch this epic story, caught a small piece of it in my friends truck during lunch, and was AMAZED at what I saw...not totally in a good way, but shocked.
Solar Adventure: What a weird treat. Definitely another semi Pre-TF Gem!
The disk actually comes in 2 parts, some live action I guess Vietnamese story, with little school kids, and then the cartoon followed by more of the live action sequence which has nothing to do with the cartoon…similar story maybe.
Summary of the SOLAR ADVENTURE cartoon. Starts out with a SPLASH, as a strange yellow helicopter crashes in a lake, near a camp site. Inside a near by tent, a lady school teacher and her class go to investigate the downed copter. Inside the HUGE cockpit is a green man and woman. They are here to help the Earth fight against “The President� who turns out to be a green guy, kinda like Piccolo from DBZ. Just then an evil worse than the Decepticons show up…that’s right the COMMUNISTS show up and start shooting. The helicopter transforms from a chopper that looks like a yellow version of Whirl, to a robot that looks very little like him, or her. And with perfect aim, takes down the human communists. With the kids causing one to blow him self up with a grenade for fun.
Long talk with the President to his fat Communist leader (seen in Space Thunder Kids) and then the green humans (green girl with long blond hair) train a bunch of kids in matching jumpsuits how to pilot the robots.
About 10 of them pile into the cockpit of Whirl, and follow an enemy chopper home, fight through waves of “robot� jets, and get their arses kicked by clones of TOR from the mighty Orbits. (I am not kidding). While the kids are being beaten, the smart one, who hid in a rain barrel, breaks out and sneaks into one of the robots destined for the melting pot (since the bad guys could not figure out how to work them). In a COMICAL (not intentional) fashion, this big robot klonks, smushes and smacks the guards into oblivion, with a Shushing motion with the finger in front of his robot lips to start…
They get free, revive “Shank� the yellow Whirl. Take on the “President� of space I guess, then the new 3 robots show their true colors…one’s red, one’s blue, and one is green... These “Canon� robots can MERGE into a giant CAMERA and use the laser to blow up the enemy base…so yea, I was right earlier. It is Reflector.
The president is shot dead by the Communist leader, after running from his burning base. And this fat guy takes his “Precious 8th squadron� or what ever, about 100 green tanks, and drives into some tunnel. The 4 robots shoot this “Canon� robot, blowing up most of them in 1 shot, then storm ahead, laser rifles blazing and wipe out the entire army.
Everybody is happy, Communism on Earth and I guess in space is defeated, and the yellow helicopter lifts off to return to their home planet…in space…with a helicopter…
I’ll miss the green girl…
